Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi SB0670 (Xtreme Music) $33.69+ ~$8 S/H at Geeks.com

A padding envelope? lame. Mine came in a 7x8x5" box, inside a static bag, wrapped with bubble wrap like crazy, and plastic cushion bags above and below the card.

but ya, I noticed that small connector also... I connected it before I installed it to see if that's what it was, but it took freaking pliers and an extremely hard pull to get the cable off of the connector... so ya, i didn't think that's what it was for, so I didn't connect it when installing the card.

Yeah, well it got here OK, so I'm not really gonna complain.

I've got it up and running now, and I found the installation CD online, so I'm downloading now and going to see if I can't get the entertainment software.

BTW, no external power needed, so don't plug it in and risk frying your card.

Hope I get my Fatal1ty headphones quick. I'm so glad Google missed the $10 off for the 6th time :D

haha same here, that's how i got $10 off this card. and my Denon receiver which I'm waiting for today..
Well, let us know if you figure out the Entertainment Software portion of it.

Got the CD downloaded, only to find it doesn't support vista. Working on downloading the correct one now. If anyone needs the CD for xp, find the modded support.cab file and place it into the audio/setup folder in the ISO found here:

http://files.filefront.com/ISO+SB+X+Fi+series/;5020773;/fileinfo.html

Should work for XP, but I'm not entirely sure.

That's what I tried several times.
That exact iso download, along with a couple others.
Nothing is working for me.
The only thing that has installed or let me install are the drivers from Creative's website, but they don't have any of the software included :(
Best of luck to anyone else who tries it though.
Here's the original creation of the support.cab for OEM cards: link
But ya, I'm thinking since that mod is 2 years old, these cards are newer and have different Vendor/Hardware ID's so that support.cab doesn't really do anything... at least it doesn't for me. :rolleyes:

Well, same results here in Vista. Found the vista ISO needed, but I keep getting the "no supported hardware" problem even after I overwrite the support.cab file.

I kind of wish that HP would have gave their users the full drivers, and not some cut down piece of crap software.

Oh well, it still sounds miles better than onboard.

After looking into the support.cab file, I found one of the differences. The Hardware ID is in CTComp.dat.
The line is:
[Hardware.Map10]
ID = 05000020, 05000021, 05000022, 05000023, 05100003, 05000024, 05000025, 05000026

The original is
[Hardware.Map10]
ID = 05000020, 05000021, 05000022, 05000023

Is there anyway you can go into device manager and check what your Hardware ID is? If so, maybe trying to add it to this line in this file, then rezipping support.cab, and putting it into the .iso would do the trick. Like I said, I don't have my card yet so I can't mess with it.

Just more brain storming...

EDIT: After looking further into it, this seems to be the ONLY file changed. Please try this and report back :)

Here's what I found under mine: PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0005&CC_0401

Damn, that doesn't look like I'd hoped! Anyway, looking trough more stuff, try changing the line to this:

ID = 05000020, 05000021, 05000022, 05000023, 05100003, 05000024, 05000025, 05000026, 05000027, 05000028, 05000029, 0500002B, 0500002C, 0500002F, 05000031, 05000032

That was an updated list, not sure if it'll work with this one, but there's a chance. I'm still looking into finding this particular one for sure.

Even more (lol) found in a newer driver support.cab

[Hardware.Map10]
ID = 05000020, 05000021, 0500002B, 0500002C, 05000027, 0500002E, 0500002F, 05000022, 05000023, 05100003,05000024, 05000025, 05000026, 05000028, 05000029, 05000031, 05000029, 05000031, 05000033, 05000020, 05000032

been there, done that. I'm miles ahead of you...
I manually added like 30 device ID's to the .dat file and then rezipped the .cab file.
still no success.

What did you use to make it a .cab file?

Did you try these Phimp?
ID = 05000020, 05000021, 0500002B, 0500002C, 05000027, 0500002E, 0500002F, 05000022, 05000023, 05100003,05000024, 05000025, 05000026, 05000028, 05000029, 05000031, 05000029, 05000031, 05000033, 05000020, 05000032, 0500002A, 05600002, 05600003, 05600004, 05600005, 05600006, 05600007, 05600008, 05600002, 05600003

These are from the driver package that you said worked, i opened up the .exe in winrar and found them. Not sure if you tried these...

Hmm. I didn't think to use the ID's in the working driver installation package. Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a try.

A quick google search lead me to ACDZip. It gets the job done.

I'll post back the results.

Yay :)

Thanks for the idea ViolentPacification.

I double checked those ID's, then put them into a CD I downloaded from a torrent that had pretty much every piece of software for the creative cards on it.
I used ACDZip to edit the .cab file.
Replaced the ID's with these:
ID = 05000020, 05000021, 0500002B, 0500002C, 05000027, 0500002E, 0500002F, 05000022, 05000023, 05100003,05000024, 05000025, 05000026, 05000028, 05000029, 05000031, 05000029, 05000031, 05000033, 05000020, 05000032, 0500002A, 05600002, 05600003, 05600004, 05600005, 05600006, 05600007, 05600008, 05600002, 05600003
^Thanks ViolentPacification!

After monkeying around with the drivers for a bit I figured it out.

I installed SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_15_0006.exe from Creative's website for the card drivers.
Then mounted the CD I had updated, at the first menu right after picking Location and Language, I selected only the first option, not Creative MediaSource.
Then when it asked what kind of installation I chose Custom.
Then selected everything I wanted and made sure that "Drivers" at the bottom of the list was unselected so they wouldn't overwrite the working drivers from Creative's site.
Restarted, and viola!

Note: it took me a while to figure out that to get the Entertainment Center program with the equalizer and such, I needed to opt to install "Console Launcher" when going through the CD installation. Apparently, that's what they're calling it lol

One very happy X-Fi card owner :D

So there is no way to hook up the front audio ports?
Where can I find a good deal on a real X-fi that can handle the front ports

Awesome Phimp! I knew we could figure it out haha. Just a matter of time...

Thanks for all the links and stuff, I'm not sure what's different in you're torrent than the .iso I downloaded off of filefront (linked from the creative forums). I guess I should just use the one you linked since it is bigger haha.

Congrats Phimp! I won't be able to do all this til Tuesday :p

There is a hackjob method of hooking up the white connector on these x-fi cards to a standard AC97 front audio connector, but if I remember correctly it involves lots of soldering.

If you want an X-Fi with AC97 front panel audio headers, you'll need to buy one of the new revision cards such as the XtremeGamer:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006

Here is how to make your own front panel (AC97 style) audio connector for these older X-Fi cards:

When I finally had it installed and working. The first thing I did was go through the 50 icons on my desktop that were all driver packages, iso's, extracted iso's, .dat files, support.cab files, and assorted txt files with notes on which ones hadn't worked and the process i used for each. haha
i got rid of the ones that didn't work, and made a .rar of the fixed .iso I made and the .exe I used for the drivers. deleted everything else and moved that ish to my backup drive lol
I don't want to have to go through all that mess again!

I was considering making a torrent of the fixed ISO and the EXE that works for the driver and a simple instructions txt file, to help some of the noobs out there who buy this card and don't even know what a .cab file is let alone hot to edit the files inside one lol
but I don't think many people would download it, because 90% of those noobs probably don't know how to download a .torrent :p

Oh and ya, I tired the filefront iso but when i tried it, after adding the correct ID's and installing, I had opted to install the drivers also (not over any other drivers), and since the ID's were there, it just went forward with it and installed everything. but after restarting, none of hte programs would work, they all popped up errors saying i didn't have a compatible sound card. i think that's what the large iso did also when i tried installing the drivers.. but the large one i linked to was the first one i tried with installing the driver from creative's site first. it worked so i didn't feel like giving the filefront iso's a try. but i do know that the torrent one has a ton of software that the other doesn't and it's newer so probably newer versions of the software.

Blue Falcon, thanks for that tutorial image!

Is there a cheap breakout box that works with this card or something then? I'm too lazy to make that connector heh

hey Phimp or spydermonkey or someone... could you post or fire me a pm with the vista iso (link to the site to start the torrent)... my google skills are weak today :rolleyes:

None to my knowledge exists that use this connector except for HP, and those are integrated into their cases.

A normal X-Fi breakout box will not work with these cards either since the pins on the AD_EXT header are missing. The box is mucho expensive to buy from Creative anyways...

link dose not seem to work, takes me to a page that says my file has been uploaded (of which i dod not upload of course) and no ammount of browseing will it take me to the acctual file
Yeah, I copied the wrong link, updated now.

But aren't the support.cab files different for each cd? There are a few different ISO's of different CD's floating around out there... I'm not sure the support.cab files are swappable.

I think I'll create a torrent of everything needed ~505mb with software and stuff.

Wasn't sure if they were or not.

I may have found an easier solution, downloading now, I'll update everyone when it's finished.

Couldn't you of just like hosted it on megaupload or something, which I could do for you (I have premium).

Torrents for drivers really aren't going to be seeded, especially for such a minority.

Then download the torrent while it still has seeds to download from quickly, and upload it to your premium megaupload account.
I just don't ever use uploading services like megaupload, rapidshare, etc.

I would gladly host the file on the GameBeat.net servers, but I'm not sure about the legality of doing so... :( Wish I could help.

I'll put a download on my website. I don't really use it anymore, so it might as well be good for something.

It's showing as having 3 seeds in the swam right now.
It's jumping around a lot though, I saw 9 seeds last night, then dropped to 2, then back up to 5, then to 3.
Maybe you have your client configured incorrectly.

I take it there have a been a LOT of downloads. There have been at least 4 or 5 seeds since the first night I uploaded it, and I don't have an amazing upload speed, but I've uploaded nearly 7 GB, and the torrent is only 500 MB lol

I just got it in today, it was packaged very well like Phimp's. Boxed, bubble wrapped like crazy, etc. It's up and running now, I opted to use the torrent b/c of sheer laziness! It all installed without a hitch, and all the software is working correctly.

Just had a question. I have a stereo w/ speakers that I connect to my computer for music (Composite (stereo) to 3.5mm (computer)). I also use a headset for gaming and whatnot. Is there any way I can have both hooked up at the same time. I always used to have my headset and stereo hooked up, with my stereo powered off when using the headset. I can't seem to get it to work on this card. I'm currently using the flexijack for the mic, and the port next to it for headset.

I think I'll buy a switch unless anyone has any ideas. Thanks...

shipped.jpg

:eek: lets hope not..

yeesh.. talking about a long ass lag time on the wait to ship.. i ordered it on the dame day as i said i would (last week thursday...) :(

oh well i wont complaign to much.. it is just a 40$ sound card after all

Is the modded Vista ISO strictly to get the software installed on an oem card? Or are there sound enhancements available? I am able to install the drivers from Creative's site just fine and have no use for the software the audio console suits me just fine. In fact the THX console sort of messed things up a bit when I tried it and went back to the original barebones audio console.
