OK so I buy an Audigy 2 Platinum. First mistake. But you know how it goes. After the MIR it seems like a good deal. NO. Well I get home and unwrap my new SC and start looking at the MIR requirments. Everything looks fine until I read that they want me to send in the entire top of the box. OK oh well no biggie. So I send it in with the top of the box and all. Wait a couple of months and then BAM! Creative has denied my rebate. WTF! I call them up and tell them that I sent it in on time and the say well we recieved it 3 days late so sorry but no rebate for you. Now if this was $10 or $20 I would probably let it go. But this is a $50 rebate I know I sent in by the required postmark date. Well it turns out that it requires more than normal postage since it was too heavy. I am thinking that the postoffice sent it but sent it later because I dont remember having to affix more than standard postage. Not to mention this was months ago.

Even still it was only three days late getting to them. I told them I sent it before it was required to send and they also made me chop up the box. PLUS they unbeknownst to me require more than normal postage for the rebate form being too heavy. I was going to be getting 10 sets of creative speakers for a gaming center that I am helping set up but am not anymore. Creative needs to learn about looking out for the little people and they will get buisness in return. Instead they choose to buy out whatever they can and create a monopoly of sorts. Bye Bye Creative I will no longer purchase your goods no matter how much better they are than the competition. ITS CALLED ETHICS! LEARN IT!

Well no... actually there's nothing inethical about what they did. They'd be doing you and you only a special favor, which is not a habit that companies can afford to have. Generally, in any kind of large organization, it's vital that regulations are set and are adhered to, or else there's usually trouble. If one person gets a rebate even after arriving late, then others might complain that they did not, etc etc and the whole issue would spiral out of control. While I do sympathize with your problem, I don't think you can really put the blame on Creative on this one.

When getting the rebate ivolves chopping up a box and sending in the cover using extra postage, that decidedly unelegant solution is most deffinately Creative's doing. It would be easier for the user and cheaper for Creative to have a web based rebate center (a lot faster too.) But to make it a hassle they have you cutting up boxes in the hopes you won't even bother with it.

Let me see if I got this right.... Creative sucks because you did not put the proper postage on the envelope and the offer expired?
HAHAHAHAHA.
I feel for you loosing $50 in the deal.
But I also feel you should not blame them for something that was beyond their control.

Thank you at least you are getting my point.

Night Raven. I sent it in by the required postmark date. No if ands or buts. The only reason it possibly didnt get sent out in time is because it was overweight. I do see how if it was a normal rebate and was late it wouldnt be right to honor it but this is different circumstances.

And yes X86Dude I do blame them. I blame them for requiring someone to send in the complete top of the box hence making someone spend more than normal postage to send in a rebate. Seems like aNightRaven said one more way to get someone to not do it or it be late like me.

a) You should be pissed off at the incompetency of the Post Office, not at Creative.
b) Interstate 66, between Washington, D.C. and the Beltway from 4 to 6 pm on weekdays is an HOV road. Not just a lane...the entire road is HOV. I was driving home from the National Gallery with a friend after having dropped him off at the MCI Center for a Caps game, and I was pulled over upon exiting route 66. I was given a ticket for $50 at 5:50 pm.

The processing fee for the $50 fine was $55.

There's plenty of incompetent asinine fools in the world, get used to it.

Rebates are particularly tricky things. The fact that you were required to send in the entire box top may correlate with the amount of rebate you're getting. I think sending in a box top to get $50 back isn't an unreasonable thing.

How much time did you have to get the rebate in? Did you send it in immediately after you aquired the product or did you wait until the final day to send it in?

And online rebates aren't exactly the easiest things either. I just bought two products at Office Maxx, both claimed to have rebates redeamable online. However, logging onto the site I discovered that neither products were covered on the gigantic list. And the process involved a detailed search of two off-site rebate centers which ate up about 30 minutes of my time!

I think their crazy with the UPC codes and crap. They should start putting little slips inside of the box that you can use to mail in instead of cutting out the UPC code. I think its stupid you buy a retail box and have to cut it up to get a rebate. Especially if you have to cut the whole freaking top off of it.

I like to save retail boxes because they are usually nice to look at and i can use it to sell the piece of hardware easier then if it was just a bare drive.

usually when they reject rebates (any company) if you bitch and tell them that you no longer want their business and want to return their product becasue you only bought it because it was a good deal they will give in

i think you're crazy to suggest such a thing. If you had something like that, people would buy things, grab the slip and return it for a full refund, and then send the rebate form off for the check. It'd be free money. Tearing the UPC off the box ensures that you can't return the product.

You just learned your first lesson in dealing with MIRs. You should actually be happy it only cost you $50. Next time, drive down to the post office and send the rebate via a confirmed or registered service. Make copies of all involved rebate forms and proof of on-time shipping. Just because you decided to slap half a box in an envelope and stick a stamp on it instead of properly posting your rebate doesn't say anything about Creative.

They usually check to make sure everything that came with what you purchased is in the box anyways, theres no reason why they couldn't check to see if the coupon or proof of purchase slip was in there also. If they got ripped off it would be their own damn fault.

If you returned something that had software with it and you took the CD or whatever out of there but your UPC code was still on the box, it wouldn't help them any unless they checked the box over.

People could just go buy themselves a 9800XT, take the voucher out and return the Video Card for a full refund if the UPC takes care of it all.

The whole MIR thingy is designed so that you will screw up at one part of the rebate form or the required receipts and on top of that they throw in all sorts of disclaimers to really sweeten the pot. I follow the instructions to the letter and always give myself loads of time to get it in and keep copies of everything. They want you to fail, so you have to beat them at their own game ;)

Yeah I was always thinking, THEY KNOW how many people fail to mail in their rebates. I say "fuck that" and do what they promised us, as I will promise to send my shit in.

Honestly I don't know why anyone supports Creative. IMO they are a bad company so I stay away. Try the TB Santa Cruz or M-Audio Revolution or the onboard Soundstorm from the nforce2 chipset based motherboards... all great sound solutions and NO crappy Creative spyware/drivers.

Creative spyware? What creative spyware: their drivers have worked fine for me, and I haven't noticed them spying, nor has any spyware checker picked them up. On the other hand, they do come with a boatload of programs that can be very useful to someone who doesn't have any professional audio tools, for free.

You can't go wrong with Creative sound cards, I mean they've been around for several years now. I haven't tried the other brands mentioned but I would like to try them sometime in the future.
