I was flipping through Maximum PC's last issue and noticed and ad in the back of the mag. It listed the latest Nvidia and ATI graphics products when something caught my eye. Creative Labs Wildcat Realizm 200 512mb selling for a whopping 1199!!! Upon further research companies like Monarch are offering the Wildcat VP0990 512mb in thier custom built PC's. Has anyone out there used these boards. Are they any good?
 
I think its for heavy duty professional editing... Just like the NV quadro cards and ATI Fire cards...

512 MEGABYTES! Ultra Quality in DOOM3 oh wow 512!

Creative labs has one that has i think that makes 4 gigs of virtual ram as well. That would be terrible for games.
 
Are you sure it was Creative Labs? I'm fairly sure 3DLabs manufactures the Wildcats..yes they're for pro use only, but if you got a bunch of those on a rendering farm...damn...

Those cards aren't remotely optimized for gaming. The FireGL and Quadro's can game just as well as their retail counterparts (6800/X800's) but that's because in order to make cost of manufacturing cheaper, ATi and Nvidia decided to simply modify the design of their gaming cards for high end 3D use. They manufacture one chip and modify it to either be a Quadro/FIreGL or turn them into 6800's and X800's.

It was a good move since the gaming cards are really powerfull in terms of processing power and rendering capabilities even when compared to other types of professional cards.
 
The cards ar e identicle but the drivers optimize for pro applications.The cost of cards is so high because of the very expensive validation process as it relates to driver performence and geometric rendering accuracy as I recall reading about a year ago or so.
