Creative Inspire 6700 6.2?

Here is my situation. I have had the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX along with Creative Inspire 6.2 6700 speaker setup for a number of years now. A few months after buying my speakers, a defect was found on the sub by Creative, so they sent me a brand new one free of charge. I still have the old on in a box somewhere.

The defect was that every now and then they crackled a little at random intervals. My question is this, is it possible (and safe for the speakers and other sub) to hook up the old sub so that it is a 6.2 speaker setup?

This is the wiring setup if it is of any use;

Soundcard - two control wires (one firewire i believe) to the external control box(not the seperate volume one)
Soundcard - Black, orange, green audio wires from soundcard to cub.
Sub - FRONT right, center, left to speakers
Sub - REAR right, center, left to speakers
Sub to volume/bass control box

Any suggesgions?
If this clearly will not work, just say.
