Creative Blackmails id Software over Z-Fail Shadows

Im not sure if this has been addressed already, but how does this affect the people buying, and playing the game?If this has no impact on game performance then this is stupid thread.Who cares if creative forced ID to add there logo/name in the game...I mean really?..who cares.

Edit - Wait a minute... I just reread the links above. This is about VIDEO shadow technology? Why in heavens name does Creative hold patents related to 3d shadows?

Creative also owns 3D labs buddy,

Also, Creative did do some work on shadows no later than 1998, where they added some interesting shadow effects to Unreal for their line of Nvidia TNT video cards, and may have led to the patented algorithm. If so, then Creative's work would have been the earliest.

Long live M-Audio!

as you can probably tell, I only read a few sentences from the first page..

Creative might have some competition if the smaller competiting companies added up, especially if Nvidia releases a PCI version of its awarded Soundstorm. I think I saw a pic of it somewhere, cant seem to find it anymore.

Looks like Creative is only good at patenting other peoples ideas then suing the hell out of everyone else , no wonder their drivers suck so bad . Rambus , Creative ,Sco the list of assholes will multiply in the near future thanks to lawyers. Hope intels HD Audio spec will catch on sooner.

some people care about wrong things even though they don't affect them, they care because its wrong. its called morality. some people take a stand for something, even though it has nothing to do with them.

Yea, and if someone blows up Japan it doesn't effect us so who cares right? I mean who really cares if someone robs a bank because since the bank is insured it's not like they are stealing my money. Right? Somehow I think the concept of the bigger picture is lost on people like you.

Well, there goes the hope of getting Dolby Digital from a game.

I'm not surprised one bit. First Aureal, now this.

Please... lets keep the comments about what may and may not be lost on other forum members and your own ideas of what morality is out of the replies.
I see no need for that type of nonsense in a discussion like this......
Thanks. :)

I've pretty much dropped creative from my list of "things to install in my computer"

Soundstorm for games, Revo for movies/music :)

i notice they carefully forgot to mention nvidias prior art
fags, hope they know they pissed off alot of people
They also forgot to explain how EAX in the Doom3 engine protects a video graphics algorithm patent in any way. Not to mention the PR guy is just an ass period. This is more of an advertisement than an explanation.

If you want to help rectify this situation, just stop buying Creative crap.

For what it's worth, I have a Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1, and it rocks. 7.1 audio, digital optical out, S/PDIF in, amazing drivers, and only $35! Linux support is a bit sketchy (thank Cirrus Logic for that), but otherwise it's awesome. I suggest going out and buying one!

The funniest part about the last statement is that iD last engine, Quake III, IS five years old and was recently used for Call to Duty, which was nominated for best game of the year by many sites/magazines.

Gameplay is an often overlooked compenent of a games appeal. I still play lots of old games...not because of eye candy but because its fun. Eye Candy is a bonus, IMO

bleh when I bought my sb live back in 2000, I heard such great things about creative(mostly from pcgamer, yeah I know..), but I remember the software would always give me hell and it was so bloated. I'm glad that my soundstorm audio is nice. Personally, I think creative shouldn't be medling in this, but it does make sense from a business standpoint.
