creating scratch partiion xp and 2k3

ok. i just put another 160 gb drive in my computer.. before i got partition it.. i am thinking of making a dedicated scratch partition on it..

how big should i go? 5gb? 10 gb? i am going to turn off system restore.. i hate that crap..

but here is the more important question.. what folders need to be redirected to taht drive, and how? i know how to send photoshop over to it.. but that's about it.. probably c:\temp needs to be dumped onto that drive.. and there is probably another temp folder inside the windows directory somewhere..

i guess that's it.. i hhave 2k3 on one partition and xp on another.. so i gotta change this all twice.. are there any differences between the 2 os'esesezz ?
 
I was going to post a relpy to this, and had it all typed up, when my computer just clicked off :eek: My CPU fan had stopped. Thankfully, my hardware monitor coupled with the high thermal tolerance of my Mobile Barton saved it from permanent damage - autoamtically off at 70C :cool:

Anyway, am I correct in presuming that your operating system and programs are not installed on this new disk in question? If so, you will find it desirable to create a scratch partition of a few gigs, head over to the OS forum, find the optimal page file size for your system, and move the pagefile to that drive. (hit Windows Key+Pause/Break, then go to the Advanced tab, the first Settings button, Advanced tab (yes again, now we're l337 advanced ;)), then hit the change button, and you will finally ve allowed to manipulate the location of the page file.

Any app specific scratch disks should be loacted on that volumes as well. You will also want the partition at the beginning of the disk so it will use the fastest outer zones. Good luck!
 
ok.. thanks.. i did find that, but didn't change it since i was waiting for a reply.. it is the first partition on the drive.. my xp partition is 20gb into the other drive though.. oh well.. is the paging file all taht i shoudl worry about though?
