I recently tried to resize my two NTFS partitions using Partition Magic. As I never had any problems whatsoever with Partition Magic, I didn't create any rescue disks.
Now, it seems that the partition table is messed up. Booting up crashes Windows with a BSOD, even Knoppix crashes on startup unless I use failsafe mode.
I had a look at the partitions with Acronis Disk Director and it seems that the partitions themselves are intact - I can browse my filesystems - however the partition table displays the free space on C: as zero bytes, despite there being an actual free space of about 16 gigabytes.
Does it ? I'm not sure the partition table even contains any information about free space. However the disk overview in Disk Direktor displays this wrong information. When browsing the disk with Disk Director I get the correct free space.
Now I wonder if there is a way to write a new partition table without risking (additional) data loss. I do have a backup but it is two months old and I'd hate to lose the newer data on the partitions.
Thanks for your help.
