• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

So, I have Win Server 2003R2 running on one of my machines, and it has its own external IP. Also has MS Exchange and all that good stuff running. What I want to know is what else I need before I can use it as a mail server.

A Record = mail (Or whatever you want)
MX Record = mail.yourdomain.com
PTR Record You must call your ISP tell them you want to create an PTR record for your IP you are wanting to use and tell them you want to resolve it to your mail.yourdomain.com. This will help with spam and will also allow the server to talk to other email servers correctly.

You may want to make SPF record I don't really care for them and I think they cause more harm than good but you can look in to it. This is not needed FYI!

Setup incoming port 25 and outgoing port 25 to/from the server in your firewall. Your ISP may not allow port 25 to send mail so you may have to reconfigure this if this is at home and depending on your ISP.

I can't think of anything else of the top of my head.

postini as well, for message spooling, spam protection, and smarthost.

send mx record to postini, point postini back to your static ip.

create a record
purchase ssl (owa, phones, etc)

set it up and done.

dont need postini, but it is a good spam protection, smarthost, spooler. needed in a business environment.

for home dont need it.

We use SpanFilter ISP and recommend it to our customers for spam. We used Baracudas and Postini before, but SpamFilter seems to do a very good job of taking care of all our spam / unwanted junk. Exchange 2010 takes care of the rest.
