Create Application Profile has me totally stumped

Gents,

I thought this would be simple. (I hate to say it, but it is easily done with nvidia's control panel.) I must be missing something obvious.

I'm trying to create custom settings when one of my games is running. It is a niche game, so there are no pre-made profiles. I thought a simple "Create Application Settings" would get me there. It does not. Running CCC 12.4.

(FWIW, in nvidia's, I can add the exe for the game to the nvidia control panel by browsing if it isn't already there, and can then set all the card profiles I want. "Save" and that's how it runs whenever that specific exe is called.)

I cannot save or open a single profile using the AMD CCC. How do I force the 3D settings I want to use when I run a specific game?

In Advanced View, navigate to the Gaming > 3D Application Settings page.
In the Application Profiles area, do one of the following:
To save the settings to an existing profile, select the target profile.
To save the settings to a new profile, select <<New Application>>. In the Browse for Application dialog box that opens, select the application for which you want to create a profile.


I see my old HL2.exe profile I made as a test months ago but I don't see the Browse for Application dialog box. I wonder if you have have the Catalyst Application Profile installed which I didn't bother with on this 12.7 beta driver.
 
Yeah, I don't get a "Browse for Application". It just opens up a folder filled with two lettered folders with no naming convention I can see, such as "oe", "ll", etc. Something's not working right.
 
there is no broswe in the drop down. The next item down on the left pane shows the summaries. Thats your browse.

When I open "3D Application Settings" (under Gaming), the topmost box has <<New Application>> as one drop down and "Save" right next to it.

No matter what I do to the settings, when I come back up to that top box I cannot save or creat a New Application.

I have no summaries. The game I want to tweak is a niche game with a small market. I doubt it has a pre-made profile. (Especially since, aside from a small user base, it is OpenGL.)

By "the next item down" do you mean "Application Profiles"?

yes, application profiles i where you browse your profiles.

if you hit the save button, does the "open" dialog come up?

That works. When I click on the save button it brings up the browser panel, so I can choose the folder where the game .exe file is.

THAT'S IT!

Click "Save", browse out of the CCC install folder (which is where "save" opens the browsing), find my exe, make my settings, and I'm done.

Yeah, it was as blindingly easy as I'd hoped it could be. (FWIW, the "save" coming before the "choose" is what threw me off.)

Question, after I create custom profiles, do they just "work"? Or do I need to "use as current settings" before playing. There are some older games such as Knight of the Old Republic and Jedi Knight II where the profiles do not work unless they are set as a current profile rather than default setting. Has anyone else seen this?
 
yeah, it took me a few minutes to figure out what the hell was going on as well.

Its pretty counter intuitive that all your really doing is attaching the current settings to an exe then saving it.

normally, they should just work.

however, there are some irritatitaing exceptions: mostly exes that have loaders beofre they load the main program are a bit of trial and error.

starcraft is a good example of this; the main .exe is NOT the actual program, you have to go figure out which directory has the current version, as every time they patch it, it creates a new directory and leaves the old one. If you have it pointing at the onld one. it will have no effect whenthe profile goes to get applied.

honestly, i think Radeon Pro is still wy easier to work with, and it has more options.

EDIT: Nvr mind - seems some script got in the way of something in the CCC, rebooted again and it started to work

You guys just answered an age old question of mine. The only thing I regret about using AMD cards is the damn Catalyst software with the hidden profiles.
