Crashes while gaming

Hey [H], I'm at a bit of a loss. I'm getting random game crashes. I don't get any error messages, the game just stops and I go to desktop. This is happening to me in Left 4 Dead 2, Skyrim and Minecraft. Here's what I've done so far to try and find an answer.

CPU - Ran prime for an hr, no issues found
RAM - Ran memtest overnight, no issues found
GPU - Ran 3DMark 4 couple cycles with no issues found.
OS - Reinstalled fresh copy of Win 10
HDD - I was keeping my Steam folder on another drive, installed Steam and Left 4 Dead 2 on the OS drive.

None of this seems to have helped. I have a feeling that it might be the GPU (GTX570) as I had crashing issues in the past that were attributed to the card. Firmware seemed to have fixed that.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is a MoBo bios update.

This system is getting a little older but besides this game crashing issue it seems to run great, here are the specs.

CPU - Intel i7-2600K (stock)
RAM - 16GB (4x4) Corsair
Board - Asus P8Z68-V Pro
GPU - EVGA - GTX-570
HDD - Crucial 500GB SSD

Check the event viewer.

Windows key -> type in 'administrator tools' -> event viewer -> windows logs -> applications.

Check when you knew this was happening.. should be a fairly red exclamation point "Error" there to see.

Crack that open and see if it gives any information.. maybe chuck some of the error codes in the googles..

Hmm. Okay.. In steam right click on your game in your library -> properties -> verify local file. See if that does anything.

I've got an old GTX285 that I can probably snag and try. I don't really know what else to do at this point.

Give your case a thorough cleaning and try running one of the games you know how to trigger a crash.. then try it sans the side on. Perhaps it is a heat issue.. Keep checking the Event Logger immediately afterwards. In the app, security, other tabs in there as well.

Not much airflow restriction . I did make sure that the cpu and gpu fans were clean and unobstructed. I just downloaded Skyrim on the OS drive, I'll try that without any mods. I have also made sure that nothing else is running in the background and made sure that only 1 monitor is plugged in.

Card may just be going bad. It's 6 years old.

But so is the rest of that PC.

I'd buy a new card just for testing purposes. You can always return it if it still crashes. Maybe a GT1030, if you want to minimize your outlays while you test.

Well... I think I found the problem...

It was a combination of 2 things,

1. I've had the same Steam folder for years. I would just move it every time I did a reformat. It's 850GB and I really didn't want to re download everything, I did verify the game files after a move. A fresh install on the OS drive and a download of L4D2 seems to have fixed that problem I believe, I did disable all mods. I'll have to go back in and start re-enabling them one by one to see if that contributed.

2. Skyrim was still messing up even after a fresh install on the OS drive, I started a new character and it played fine. I loaded an old save and guess what, it seems to be fine. The autosave based on the latest save was synched from Steam install to install and ended up being corrupt. I moved to a previous save and it appears to be playing fine now...

Thanks for the help guys, I feel a little silly that I wasn't able to figure this out on my own before creating a thread but that past now, at least all of the hardware survived the stress tests. Minecraft still won't run without crashing and I mean hard crashing so... but I'm pretty over that game so no biggy.
