While playing BC2 my computer didn't completely freeze up but it just froze up and every 30 seconds or so something else would happen like an alt+tab or whatever. When I restarted it it went past the splash screen and post then it just stopped with nothing on the screen but a green square with a large red dot in it with my video card fan revved up to 100%. My card has never come close to overheating or anything like that before. Just wondering if anyone has ever seen that square with the dot in it.

Never seen that before. Are you gaming at 1920x1280? Have you checked your GPU utilization during BC2 playing? Is your X6 CPU overclocked or stock?

1920x1200 and everything is stock except the 5850 I've had since February which was shipped to me with 5870 bios on it, it was bought brand new.

That could be the issue right there a 5850 is not the same as a 5870. If it has a 5870 bios on it that could be the problem. Upping clocks and shader speed/ram etc.. is one thing, trying to add Stream processors etc.. when they are not there could be the problem. I've never read anywhere on unlocking a 5850 to 5870 so I would suggest flashing the bios with a 5850 bios applying the same current voltage and clocks and see if that fixes the problem.

Has this happened on any other games or just BC2? Since this started does it only happen in BC2 or any game now?

Try running memtest86 to rule out the RAM as the issue. What are your temps while gaming on that 5850? I would take a can of compressed air and clean out the vent in the card. Recently had a 4850 start bugging out with similar symptoms as your 5850, and it was caused by a huge ball of dust that blocked all airflow.

That's probably it. Haven't cleaned it in a long time and my room is obscenely dusty no matter what I do. I'll clean it when I get home. The green square with the red circle is what weirded me out and was wondering if anyone had ever seen it.
