**Crash**bam, booooom, oh ****

So I was moving into my dorm last night and was pushing my big ass monitor on my chair, which I've done 20 thousand times before. Its an old mac monitor, like almost 4 years old now, but it still beats the hell out of a ton of monitors out now. Anyways, this thing weighs about 80 pounds, if not more, and being a weak little nerd I can't carry this thing the whole way to my dorm, so I wheel it on my comp chair. When I got to my door to unlock it, I left it unattended for ONE second and all of a sudden I hear a giant *BOOOOOOOOOOM* and look back, and theres my monitor laying screen down on the ground, having fallen off off my chair.

It still works, but there's the obvious cracks, and slight discoloration in that corner. Is this repairable? And if not, what CRT would you guys recommend?

Take it to a windshield repair shop they will fix it in a jiffy

Mitsu 2141 replacement is a must. If you "must" to use CRT. Boy them Apple LCD displays do look delicious.

And I don't own a mac, I used this monitor on my PC.

rofl, I know. I'm suprised it still works. I was afraid to turn it on for fear of an explosion, but it works fine, except for some slight discoloring in that corner. Now as I sit here typing part of me wonders if its gonna explo-----*b000000m*

Nice monitor - what that actually is a Sony Multiscan GDM-20SE. I had a GMD-17SE (17", obviously) branded as a Digital Equipment Corporation VRT-17HA which was manufactured in November 1995. It finally went tits up and I replaced it with a NEC FP912SB 19". I cannot tell you how much of an upgrade this was! Nevermind the extra size - the NEC is superior in every way. I'd heartily reccomend you check out a FP2141SB to replace your old friend.

but it did manage to leave a lot of glass everywhere after a few .45 FMJs.

Yeah - ever heard the term vaccum tube? That is why CRTs have thick leaded glass screens - to be able to deal with the force without breaking. That's why the original monitors were not flat screened - that shape is stronger and the glass did not need to be as thick - sort of like a dome.

If anyone else is motivated to smash up their crts be aware that crts are in many ways huge capacitors that can hold electrical charges for 24 hours or more after being unplugged. That's why you have to discharge them before opening the unit and why literally no one repairs crts in a home environment.
