mobo: MSI P6N sli-FI Latest bios v1.7
2x2 OCZ ddr2 ram(PC6400)
Coolermaster TX with OCZ freeze thermal compound.

I have disabled everything in the bios that I can find. I can't find C1E. Apparently this relates to the vdroop. People say to press F4 but that doesn't make this option show up.

Only changed cpu voltage thus far.
3.5ghz = 333x10.5 @ 1.4 volts = freeze during prime 95
3.5ghz = 280x12.5 @ 1.4 volts = can't load windows
3.5ghz = 304x11.5 @ 1.4 volts = can't load windows
3.5ghz = 350x10.0 @ 1.4 volts = can't load windows

3.33ghz= 333x10 @ 1.3volts = auto reboot
3.33ghz= 333x10 @ 1.39volts = prime 95 instant error

EDIT - I am not stable 333x9.5 =3.16ghz at 1.232 volts
Going back down to 333x9

Are you running the latest BIOS? And have you checked your temps? For pushing anything to the max on air there really is no substitute for a TRUE.

Find a Load line calibration option, Which should not hard to find if the board has discriptions, i dont know if msi boards have that option, but im sure it does with a different naming.

Also, What are your temps? Also, Make sure to use the clocks that keep your ram near its rated speed.

3.5Ghz should not be that hard for a E5200, even for the worst stepping.

If you can post some bios shots, or find a review that contains some, i can help you out if i know what kinds of options msi boards have.

I find it more weird that your stable at 3.16Ghz @ 1.232V, which means 3.5Ghz should be easy even more when your doing 1.4V under it.

crashed running stress test at 3 ghz at 1.232v. temps never reached 39c on either core. how can this be. i upped the voltages and will go from there.

Try playing around with your other voltages. You might need to increase your chipset voltage, as well as possibly your CPU PLL and FSB Termination volts (if you have the options available).

now at stock volts and 216x12.5, 2 programs are telling me my temps on both cores are 39C idle. That is high. May have to replant the fan?

Ignore idle temps; they are totally meaningless. Pay attention only to your load temps, and use Real Temp 3.0 for your readings.

coretemp and hwmonitor and realtemp said around 46/48C under load at stock everything during prime 95 blend test

Why would idle temps be in the 20s until now?

My last processor was a E2260 on this setup that I oc'd to 300x9 at 1.32 volts with no change in the motherboard voltages. It was stable.

Because the sensors in your CPU aren't accurate below about 50C. You can't really trust any idle numbers. They're designed to be very accurate at temperatures close to Tjmax (which is 100C). The farther you get from that, the less accurate the readings are. And in any case, even if you do get idle temperatures of around 40C, that isn't bad for your CPU in any way, so there's no reason to be concerned about it.

Overclocking isn't an exact science, and different chips sometimes require different things. The only way to know for sure is to try.

333x8 which is only 2.66ghz freezes in prime at stock voltages.
300x10 which is 3.0ghz with 1.3volts wont even boot into windows. I think this a FSB gap.

my theory here as you already mentioned is I need motherboard voltages to get a 333 bus

my board has NB and SB voltages as well as FSB VTT (0 to 20%)
FSB VTT is the one I want to up?

FSB VTT is the same thing as FSB Termination voltage. That's one of the ones you can play with. The NB voltage could also be helpful. SB voltage is not important.

Thanks! I assume the percentages are based on the current FSB voltage. Im running at stock everything but 333x7.5 with 2%. so far it is stable. If it is stable...should i just keep pumping up the cpu voltage along with the multi?

Raise the CPU speed first, and check for stability. If it isn't stable, add voltage until it is. Generally, you shouldn't add voltage unless you know that it's already unstable. Otherwise, it could be unnecessary.

Mmm..sounds like you got a dud, much like me. My core1 on my e8400 won't do anything over 4ghz regardless of anything, sad really. i can do 3.8 with no voltage, load fine, core 0 passes core 1 fails, every time, just sounds like you got a dud core bro, happens with these 45's allot.

Agree, give casper the info he needs and he can figure it out. He can oc any e5200 on any board. +rep

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1164174&highlight=p6n Huge thread on my board

To summarize the bios options: PICS http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/cpu_mobo/msi/intel/lga775/650i/p2.shtml

FSB Settings: 400MHz to 2500MHz (QDR)

DDR2 Settings: 400MHz to 1400MHz

PCIe Settings: 100MHz to 200MHz

CPU Voltage Settings: +0.0125V to +0.3875V (in 0.0125V steps)

Memory Voltage Settings: 1.80V to 2.80V (in 0.05V steps)

NB Voltage Settings: 1.250V to 1.350V (in 0.025V steps)

SB Voltage Settings: 1.50V to 1.70V (in 0.05V steps)

FSB VTT Voltage Settings: 0% to 20% (in 2% steps)

notice pressing F4 unhides C1E - well it does not work for me.

I have tried various voltages at 333x9 = 3Ghz. All either have one core fail prime or blue screen or freeze. max temp was 54C but that was after maybe 40 seconds. The highest voltage I tried was .125 cpu above stock, 1.3NB, 6%FTT
