crappy 3Dmark11 score, help

So I got my first modern system running, still all stock clocks and volts, I7 950, 2@6950Xfire.

Pretty sure I got all the right drivers, though I will admit that I am new to this modern stuff.

I'm at the bottom end of the bell curve on 3Dmark for my hardware. Is this because I have not cranked up the clocks yet?? I was expecting to be pretty average. Any ideas?

Have you tried any real video games to see if they run well?

3dmark isnt a game you can play....so the score really means nothing
 
Well, just got the thing running a few days ago...I got 3 1080 monitors coming but right now I'm at single 1280x1024. Newest game here is COD4, it seems to run fine...I'm just worried I'm doing it wrong.
 
yeah those score are low even for stock clocks I would suggest oc'ing your core i7 to around 3.6-3.8 Ghz if you have a cooler that can handle it (ie not the stock cooler) as you are probably hitting a cpu bottle neck also make sure you are using up to date drivers. the 11.4 beta drivers are really good.
 
the driver are the most important thing if you have old drivers especially ones that predate the 6900 series it will hold you back alot.

I got catalyst 11.2, newest non beta, but the driver reports as 8.821...wtf?

Never use windows update for video drivers, if you are, remove them and install the ones from the ATI/AMD site immidiately.

I have heard that drivers must first be completely removed and a clean install done.

what is the software that does this...and how do you interact with the computer while it has no drivers?

Probably sounding ignorant as hell...this is my first modern box.
 
Just use the uninstaller, windows will use a generic driver after reboot. Then you can install the fresh drivers you downloaded.
 
you mean uninstall in device manager?

I see no uninstall option in CCC or in all programas, only stream SDK2 developer (whatever that is) uininstall

edit nvm add/remove programs-ati catalyst install manager-change-express uninstall all

we'll see what happens
