I was just wondering the question.

I have a

amd64 3500+

and 2 sticks of some cheap ass ram that equal to 512 mb ddr 2100 more than likely not a name brand either.

So my question is, how bad can this affect the performance on my processor?
If I did a video benchmark with this ram compared to a decent brand/speed of 512 to 1 gig by how many points would it increase my video benchmark by?


with my radeon 9800XT it says I got 5,381 now I dunno if thats bad or shitty but i know it has to be, and for these system specs not regarding the ram about what should I be running at on 3d mark?
 
Yeah, that RAM is definitely holding your system back. I'd recommend upgrading to at least 512MB of PC3200 or better RAM. Type is up to you, but I'd look at Corsair, Kingston, or OCZ.

lol thanks, hopefully when I get new and better ram, It will actually go up abit and its not just my vid card shitting out on me or I have a weak cpu or something :/
 
No, its from having the slow speed of ram. Get some pc3200. Either one stick of 512, or get 2 of them for a gig in total.

You will see an improvement. it won't be huge, but it will be there.
 
3DMark 2003 is largely affected by the video card. If you want to see large increases in 2003 get a new gen video card.

Your motherboard suports dual channel ram so you want to use 2 sticks of ram to take advantage of that, so 2 sticks of 512 is the way to go. I would not expect to see huge gains in 2003 though with that uprade. And you definetly want to run at least DDR400 to take advantage of the cpu.

so you mean in otherwords the vid card runs shitty on these tests? Almost like its glitched or the test is to strong for this video card? I mean I see people with p4 3.0 ghz talking about how they pull like 20 to 25k off of the 2003 version. I also read many reviews and they all say the athlon64s are better gaming systems

Those 20-25K scores are on PC Mark 2001 . :rolleyes:

I wish i had a rig that would score that on 2003, but sadly, they don't exist.
