crap... is my card DOA?

i bought the refurb x800pro AGP from the ati clearance section and got it today. I've installed cat 5.8, dx9.0c, and EVERYTHING is screwed up. Here is a ss, notice the startmenu and obvously the 3d model:

3dmark looks like that as well... luckily the card came with a 3 yr warrantee, but i just want to make sure that there is nothing i can do about this card.

the thing is, 3d mark runs all the way through and gives me a score, but its jagged lines and fragmented textures everywhere.

Grr, i leave for college in 2 days ;(
 
Looks like you get to send yours back. They have really good RMA, but your going to have to wait for a bit to get your new card :(
 
Is this "screen works but artifacts like mad" DOA common? usually DOA means it doesn't even give a signal, right?
 
yeah, thats fubared... id put my money on crappy HSF mounting, looks like its overheating.

RMA it. you should have a new card in like, a week. ATI's RMA kicks ass.
 
i just uninstalled 5.8 and noticed that the start menu got better.

im going to install 5.6 or 5.7 and see if the prob is just some 5.8 pms my x800pro has

Have you tried examining the heatsink and maybe putting some AS5 on it?

HAHAHA owned. That rocks and made me laugh :) but its the truth....


I use IE!! for life.. best browser still to this day. As long as you are not stupid and get Virii and spyware... Just dont surf porn and dont try to illegally dl shit and I have no problem. I use my Mac for porn because I know it cant get spyware or Virii :)

That is like asking a man to not eat for a week, when the steak is right there in the freezer.

On a more related note... try some AS5 and re-seating the heatsink. You're getting video so it's working to an extent, might just be a heat issue.
 
But if he does that and it doesn't work, what is he going to do? He will have voided his warranty for a solution that isn't guaranteed to work. I would rather send it back and let ATI fix it or give me a new one, even if I think I can do it myself, because there's the chance it won't work, and then I can't return it anyway.

Not to say that I wouldn't void any warranties, I've done my fair share of that, but all the parts were known to work, so overclocking or modding them wasn't taking a risk when I might need an RMA in the near future. Just something to consider...
