CPUZ not reporting correct speed

  • Cool N Quiet is DISABLED in the BIOS
  • Windows 7 Power Management set to increase fan before dropping MHz
  • BIOS set to 240MHz x 10 = 2.4GHz
  • Windows reports 2.4GHz
  • CPUZ reports voltage bumps and RAM Speeds correctly.

Running an:
Opteron 170
Abit KN8-Ultra latest BIOS

I can't get 3dMark to run on Windows7 after doing the custom OpenALand C++ 2005 manual installs. I've reverted to FEAR to try to determine whether or not the system is actually faster than it was before the overclock since CPUZ won't report higher than 2.0 but I can't be sure if it is or not.

Any ideas? Thanks!
 
only thing i can say is check the bios.. its quite possible the bios is reverting the overclock when your rebooting.. but thats odd that cpu-z is reporting the default clock if it is actually overclocked.. even with cool n' quiet it would drop way lower then that.. so thats not the problem.. sounds like cpu-z cant detect what the bios is set at.. so its just showing the default information for the cpu..
 
I thought of that too. Only thing I notice is that when it boots, it doesn't report a speed. The BIOS when using my old chip used to say "AMD ATHLON 3200+ at 2.0GHz" but now it only says "AMD OPTERON 170", not giving a speed, so I can't actualy be sure when it reboots it's using the overclocked setting, but there's no real reason why it shouldn't be, especially if Windows is seeing it and the overclock is sticking in BIOS when I check.

I did have one crash last night at 2.5GHz, so I bumped the voltage a tad (which CPUZ can see) and it's solid now at 2.5x10. It wouldn't have crashed if the speed was stock is my thinking. CPUZ still reports 2GHz though.
 
Bios update maybe?

edit: nvm i see you're on the latest BIOS.
 
yeah sounds like its a bug in the bios that its not reporting the correct settings so cpu-z just sees it as stock even though its overclocked..
