For some reason CPU z is switching its reading on my overclock, I have is set on multipiler set on auto in tthe bios for the e6300 (which is x7). But its switches between 6 and 7. So set it to 7 and it does the same?
Any ideas, full spec in sig. Many thanks in advance. P

Yes, there's no reason to turn off EIST/C1E unless they cause you problems - doesn't slow down the computer as it will go back to full speed under load.

If you set a higher-than-default static vcore voltage you'll be pumping extra voltage to a slower running chip if I'm not mistaken?

It doesn't drop the voltage on idle if you set a fixed voltage, no, presumably because the BIOS doesn't know at what voltage it will be stable at 6x (you ought to be able to configure that). So you are over-volting it a little at idle, although that's not going to be harmful for the chip if it's happy with that voltage at max multiplier under load. Power consumption of a CPU involves both voltage and frequency though, so dropping the multiplier still has some effect, and since there's no way to get the voltage to decrease, you're facing either no power savings or some small power savings. It wouldn't be worth worrying about if it causes problems or slowed down the computer, but generally you can just turn on the setting and it all works fine.
