cpu voltage

Ok, basically I'm worried about my cpu voltage. On the retail box it says 1.55MAX. When I have the BIOS settings for vcore on auto I get 1.65ish volts. I adjust in BIOS to 1.55 which is the lowest setting for my mobo and I'm still at 1.63. Thought it might be misreading with the ASUS probe utility, so I check CPU-Z and its the same number. What gives? And are these voltages dangerous and huring my cpu? Cause I know that 1.7v will just about fry your cpu (from what I've read on other's posts).
Called Intel and they were no hope. Told me to flash my bios. Got the newer version and same thing. Any sugestions, advice, comfort, pity etc?

Asus boards overvolt to make the CPU seem "stable"

High voltage is dangerous if you don't have proper cooling. However, once you get to around 1.7+, you could be facing Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome, and poof, your CPU's toast.

my p4p800-d does the same thing. At 1.52v in Bios, I get 1.63v. If I set bios at 1.56 or 1.6, I get 1.7+.

kinda pisses me off that Asus does that. If there's no need for that extra voltage, why push it? I mean hell, they put all those options for overclocking in the bios for the enthusiasts...let them decide on what voltage to push to their cpu for stability.
