CPU voltage and overclocking questions

Ok so I am running on a conroe E6600 at 2.4Ghz (stock) with a voltage of 1.18v. Is this right? My bios says its 1.18v but I thought the default was higher and I never changed anything.

Also I would like to possibly overclock my cpu to 2.8/3.0 sometime soon and was just wondering what would be the best method on doing so.

Thanks,
Ryan

My stock voltage is 1.18 so yes, I believe that is right.

I bumped the core voltage to 1.275 and I'm testing in out with Orthos right now at 2.75GHz (1224 fsb) to make sure it's stable. I've read that people can get 3.0GHz with a 6600 at 1.275 voltage without any stability issues, though at 2.75 right now my temp with a load is 51c so I'm not sure how much higher I'm going to be able to get it before it starts to get to hot for my tastes (60c+). If you are going to try some OCing then I would suggest taking it slow, this is really my first time doing this so I'd rather not give any more advice (blind leading the blind comes to mind.. ) Here is where I found some info, but I've found you don't need to put voltages up anywhere near as high as the link I'm adding states to do. http://pc.ign.com/articles/747/747606p1.html

I would follow the other items they say to do, turning off different setting in the bios, but I would start out with the core voltage at 1.275 at first leaving the other voltages alone and take the fsb up to 1224 and boot it up to make sure everything boots ok. If you have no problems then you can take it from there as to how much more you are willing to try.
