CPU usage too high?

Im running a C2D E7300 @ stock speeds w/ 4GB of RAM and for some strange reason whenever I load a new page in firefox CPU usage jumps way high. As I'm typing it usage is hovering between 3-5%. whenever I click a link to load a new page it will jump to 35-40%. is this normal? RAM usage is stable. It sits around 1.3GB used when i have all my baseline programs running (Comodo, AVG).


Any ideas?
 
On my Q6600, CPU usage jumps when rendering new pages too - but since the CPU isn't doing very much while you're typing, but has to render a new page when you click a link, a spike of activity isn't too surprising?
 
its not surprising, I was just wondering if that amount of usage was normal.
 
from this page to hitting the home button to yahoo, my 4200+ jumped to 46% then back down to 3ish
 
Its normal, i just tested out and same deal on my E5200 at the speeds im at, hovers at 1-4% then goes near 30% when loading a page. Firefox uses alot on mem on my setup, almost 100k sometimes.
