CPU upgrade?

I trying to upgrade my computer if possible. It is a Levono i3-2100 desktop does anyone know if this computer can be upgrade to a i5 or i7? The mother board is Levono, socket 1155. Thanks Bentley2
 
In theory, it SHOULD be able to take a Sandy Bridge i5 or i7.... Should being the operative word. It may be able to take IB as well but SB will have a greater chance of success since that i3 is a SB
 
OEMs do funky stuff sometime, I'd expect it to work but you never know if they locked in your hardware or not.

In theory yes, they all use the same socket, ivy bridge and Sandy bridge, i3, i5 and i7.
 
Ive changed the CPU out on a friends pre-built PC a couple times and it was never a big issue. I just had to reapply some TIM on the stock cooler and drop it back in. Ive only done it a couple times on Dells and one HP but never noticed any "lock" or anything like that.

That is a minor concern though as a i5 will run a little hotter than a i3 but I dont think it would be enough to matter. The chips I always swapped out were a faster quad core for and OEM quad core. Never gone from a slow dual core to a fast quad core. I dont think it would be a problem but it wouldnt be bad advice to monitor the temps for the first few days of use just to be sure.
 
If the motherboard has the microcode to support an i5/i7 processor then it should work. If you search for the model of the desktop, and see if it has any i5/i7 offerings that's probably enough evidence. For example if its a lenovo K330 , then see if there's a K330 out there that was ever sold with an i5-2400 or something
