CPU Upgrade Question

I have a 20" intel iMac with a 2.0Ghz T7300 processor in it, 4GB of ram.

I've seen some great deals on processors and I think these can be swapped out for something more powerful, like a T7500 (2.2) T7700 (2.4) or even a X7900 (2.8 extreme).

Now, I doubt I'll go with the 2.2 because that's really not much of an improvement at all. However, between the other 2.4 and the 2.8, which one should I go with?

Price is somewhat of a concern, for example, if I'd get a great improvement with the 2.4 but only a little more improvement with the 2.8 and it was twice the price, I wouldn't do it.

Does anyone know anything about these intel iMacs? Help me decide, please!
 
I dont think you would notice much of a difference between 2.0 and 2.4. You might notice a small difference, but I dont think its worth the upgrade. If you came across the 2.4 for say 100 bucks, it might be worth it, but other then that I would pass.

I look at it as going from a GTX 280 to a GTX 285, yea theres a difference, the 285 is faster, but are you going to notice that speed difference in game? No, maybe if you was going from a 7800GT to the 285, but such a micro upgrade, will be very much limited in difference.


Hell I dont think I could tell teh difference between my i7 running at 3.0 and 4.0 ghz.

Benchmarks prove and show the difference, but do you benchmark 24/7 or do you actually use the computer? Cause actual use there will be 0 noticable difference.

save your money, wait for something real new say an i7 mac lol.

Will that work in mine? I've got the 1st generation aluminum Intel iMac, not the second. Gah. I wish these were as easy to upgrade as PC's.
 
Oh hey, why don't you overclock. You could easily squeeze out 400mhz, probably without a voltage bump.

Oh, that's right, you're on a mac. You can't do that. I'll have fun launching petty internet attacks at your scrawny mac from my 4.0ghz 8-threaded 6GB MAC STOMPING BEAST.
 
Lmao, trust me man, I miss having a PC. I love my Mac but I miss having a PC for my games and shit. If I can ever scrape together some cash (since I'm poor from these Macs :p) I will definitely build another box.

I'm still killing myself for selling my asus p5ne/core 2/8800gts rig. That thing was lightning fast almost two summers ago. :eek:
