CPU upgrade options on P4

Currently running a P4@3ghz HT and have an otherwise good system w/ 1GB RAM PC3200 (upgrading to 2 soon) and a HIS x1950pro AGP 512mb.

I realize it has extremely limited potential CPU wise, but I have some $ to spend and was wondering if the P4EE was still available or affordable, or worth it for that matter, or I could get my hands on a P4 3.4-3.6 for a decent price. My mobo, I believe, is an i865 LGA-775 socket. Any info would help, just want to pump a little more life into my system before complete overhaul in about 1 year.

Save the money for a new mobo/ddr2/and pci-e video card

There were little differences between P4 3.2 and 3.8
The small amount of performance is no where near worth the cost of the processor.
You are going to pay somewhere between $450-$900, depending on the reseller and how credable they were

Depending on the manufacturer of the motherboard you have, it may support a Pentium D processor which would allow you a better upgrade path. If it does support Pentium D you could upgrade to something like this:

You could even upgrade to something like this:

Which would support a Pentium D if your current motherboard does not. And it will allow you to use your current video card and memory.

My mobo is a i865P/PE/G/i848P LGA 775.

It looks as though it's compatible with core-duo, are there any downsides or problems associated changing this processor from single core P4 to core duo?

Nevermind, VRD 11.0 issues and BIOS updates, blech, I'll just wait for system overhaul.
