CPU Upgrade Opinion?

If you don't have any problems with slugishness of a dual core, the 7750 is a good choice.

What do you mean by sluggish ness?

I don't tend to do alot of encoding ect. Mostly gaming ( Sometimes multiple instances of a single game), Downloading, ect. Then burning some discs but not often.

I understand you are trying to keep it below 125, but honestly, you could future proof yourself a little by getting the x3 720 BE. Right now it is the best price/performance out and its only a little more than what you are looking at.

Buying a house currently (Should be closing next week) is why I'm trying to stay at/below 125$ just worked on one of my wifes co-workers PC's and she paid me 100$ for the work done so i'm trying to stay around that but wouldn't mind going up alittle to get that tad extra. So 125$ is already up from what I wanted to spend :)

Well, then I would wait. first run phenoms are not worth buying. And supposedly in q2 new phenom 2 based Athlonx2 processors (Code Name Callisto) are supposed to drop and replace the 7750. so, wait a month and let prices come down on whats out, or wait 2-3 months and wait for the new dual cores. I honestly don't think any of the proc you are looking at are worth buying compared to others that are out.

X3 710 is fine. Nothing wrong in getting it. Would be nice to get the X3 720 BE but I doubt OP's co-worker would notice the difference.

The chip is for the OP. The OP's Wife's Co-worker payed him to work on a computer. 100$. Now he wants to take his 100$ and buy himself a new CPU

oh just get the x3 710 ..its not a black edition but its still a monster of a cpu and overclocks god too even with the locked multi.....its much much better then any of other procs u have mentioned

the 710 would be your best bet as long as your running a AM2+ mobo, and will give you a chance to run AM3 mobo down the road.

sell your X2 for $40, then take your $125 + $40 and buy the X3 720. It's currently on Newegg for $145

IMO the 710 is the best upgrade ,but for the price the 7750 is a decent step up,i just went from x2 5000@3.0 to x2 7750 @3.2

I would recommend you wait for the opertunity to buy the Phenom II X3 720. If I had to choose from your list I would go for the Phenom 710 because it has the newest core of the bunch.

Screw the 8750, why buy into outdated technology when he has the chance to buy the PII? I guarantee if he buys the 8750, 1 month from now he'll be wondering 'what if'....

True, but some people are satisfied with the 8750, but as you say, a 710 for the same price is a better choice.

X3 8750 is only $104 now at the Egg and that includes free shipping I do believe. It is fine performance wise, but uses more power than the PH2's. X3 710 is the best deal from the $ and performance and power usage point as you say. However, being CHEAP is OK in this case I guess and the 8750 is still a vviable option I guess for El Cheapo people like me. Power usage though will eventually make the 8750 cost more.

I'd go with the route of selling your current processor and putting the money together to grab a Phenom II 720 x3

if your not doing anything but browsing the internet maybe light gaming go with the 7750. other than that get the 710.
