Hey I just upgraded to a 2.8HT "northwood" processor last night. and Just out of curiosity ran 3Dmark to see if there is any improvement. I also upgraded to some low latency Corsair PC3200. My 3dmark score only jumped like 20 points. I think 3Dmark benchmarks off of proccessor peformance as well does it not?

heres my specs, mabey someone can look at them and see if Im in the ballpark.

P4 2.8gig HT northwood
512Mg CL2 Corsair PC3200 Dual channel
Intel 865 PERL mainboard
Ati 9800 pro (r350 chip)

I scored 5754

with my 2.4gig non HT and 1gig of PC2700

I scored a 5732

should I have seen a bigger jump than this with the proccessor upgrade?

Any insigt anyone could provide would be helpfull.

Thanks!

Aaron

No, becuase its only a fraction in perfoormance differance but it does help.

Now if you went from a k6 amd to a amd 3800+ or something you would see a differance.

fwiw: my system is below in sig... at 3.485 GHz it does 6,949 in 3Dmark2003 and is in the ORB as such :D

we have similar specs, any tips how I can improve mine?...I have not done any tweaking what so ever to improve scores.

I call BS unless you can prove this. I only get 6025 at 3.2 ghz and my card was at 385/710.

any questions? :p

Deity: I haven't really done anything special except careful tweaking to optimize memory timings, voltages, and a little oc on the video card. Think I just lucked out with my particular combination of hardware and disabling the Aardvark card when I'm not using it.

2003 doesnt care much about CPU clock. I can get the same score clocked @ 1000mhz less.

a little over 12k in 2k3. I've put the card in my shuttle celeron rig and scored 11.8k, 3.6gig celeron less vid card clocks. But i get the same scores if it's clocked @ 2.8ghz stock.

The only way your going to see a jump in 2003 is cranking that vid card up. Mines clocked @ 650 core and 590 X 2 on the memory.

This is on my AMD64 rig

Use 2001 if you testing CPU.

It's true - 3DMark2003 is not as CPU dependent as 2001 is; it relies more on the graphics card you have. If you're really worrying over this, you'll have to upgrade the video card or OC it to see some better numbers.

But, like I always say: don't base things solely on synthetic benchmarks. If you like your card and the real world performance, that's all that really matters.

man, ive got to upgrade my card, so far its performing well considering im only playing counter strike. But i only scored a 1200 in 3dmk03. When HL2 comes out, i think it will be time for upgrade.

While that score is just about average for a 2.8GHz Northwood P4 system with a Radeon 9800 Pro videocard, it's still nearly 200 points lower than the score that I got (5946).

You have the exact same CPU and the same model motherboard as I do (mine is loaded almost to the max that Intel itself would integrate onto that PERL mobo - SATA RAID, Firewire and 10/100 NIC - while yours may be the most basic version of that mobo) - and with the same Corsair XMS3200LL memory. (Remember, Intel actually sells four different versions of the D865PERL, of which mine is the second-most loaded version - and the most basic version has onboard audio but no RAID, no Firewire and no NIC.) Granted, I have 1GB of that memory, while you have 512MB - but that alone shouldn't account for any difference whatsoever in the 3DMark03 score.

Which version of the Catalyst drivers did you use to attain that 5754 score? (My 5946 score was with the Catalyst 4.6's.)

I think I used the 4.6 drivers, I pulled the newest ones from ATis site.
