I know this should prolly go into the OC'ing and cooling forum, but I'll bet more of you guys have seen it than anyone else.
I've been folding at 3.9 GHz (20x 195 BLCK) on my 920 for 4-5 months now (since I got this D0 920 from Dookey) and for the past month or so, I keep seeing my CPU throttle the multiplier down to 12x which puts it around 2.34 GHz. It seems every 5-10 mins I look over at my temp/clock gadget, I see it throttled down.
Now my temps are a bit high. Right now it's sitting around 85°C on its hottest core. But it shouldn't throttle until it gets up to 100°C, right? I've never seen the Tj Max get below 13 (87°C core temp). I've tried disabling Speedstep tech in the BIOS to no avail (didn't think it'd work, but worth a shot). All the threads stay maxed out, so it should be down clocking anyways. When it throttles, the temp only drops to around 70°C.
Just wondering if maybe I'm missing something. I've switched mobos around the time it started (I think, it might have been doing it before and I didn't notice) and thought maybe I missed a setting somewhere. I think I need to ditch this V8 cooler in favor of a H50/70. If someone would buy my case in the FS forum, I would get one ASAP. It also doesn't help that my rig is in the basement where there's no ventilation and my 2 folding machines (mostly the 3x GTX 285s) keep it around 80°+F down here.
Thanks for any help!
