cpu throttling after liquid spill fixed.

okay, last week had a coke spill through top fan on my antec 1200 case. liquid got on mobo and gpu. mobo was fried and ordered new one. came in today, and put everything together, was very worried about my gpu because i had no way to test it. I have booted for about 5 minutes and the gpu seems to be working fine for now. only thing that is different about how my pc is running now and how it was running before the accident last week is when pc is idle, my cpu keeps jumping up from 0 to around 30 percent usage with no programs running and it just being completely idled. Was wondering what might could be causing this?

i checked my temps on cpu to make sure i did a good thermal paste job with the cpu/heatsink and my temps on cpu at idle are 25 c.
 
also, only the cpu fan and one out of three of the system fans power on the motherboard is working, so i'll probably be sending it back. at least the cpu fan works. but there are 3 total system fan 3 pin powers on the motherboard and only one works right now.
 
You know, this is why I will never buy a case with a blowhole again. I was constantly worried whenever I had a drink near the computer.

me too man, im thinking about getting a desk with a cubby hole for the pc.
just cant figure out why my cpu usage is jumping around all crazy like. didnt do that before the spill. everything else seems to be working properly, just scared to use the pc in fear of screwing up the processor since it doesnt seem to be stable.
 
okay, so sitting here idle, and just saw cpu meter go to 70 percent. before the spill i never saw it go over 20 percent during startup or browsing/multitasking ect. except during games of course. is it possible that i got a bad motherboard? i already know a few system fan power supplies arent working, so could a bad mobo cause this? or is it possible my cpu got messed up during the spill?
 
The CPU won't go to x% usage for no reason. Open task manager and use the "Process" tab to determine which process (or processes) is/are utilizing the CPU time. You can sort the list by the %CPU column so the top user will shoot to the top. This should be the idle process most of the time.
 
yeh, ive been checking that. selected show processes for all users, and im not seeing anything outrageous going on. nothing out of the ordinary is going on. and nothing that i can see is making it spike.
 
That is very strange then. Unless whatever you are using to read CPU usage is wrong...

Try with Process Explorer from Microsoft.
