Is thre a CPU test like there is for RAM? I am asking because 3 sticks of RAM fail MemTest86 on Test 7 which is the Random number sequence. The motherboard has been changed because this it was what I thought the problem was first.
 
usually just stressing the system "tests" the processor..

what RAM?
 
ddr 1 - 266, and 2 - 400's all fail the test 7. Tested all the sticks by them selfs. And the motherboard has been replace because it is what i thought was the problem. But now i think it may have been the processor. The system is about a month or less old
 
could it be the PSU? i doubt the processor would cause memory to error out

not enough voltage has proven to cause memtest errors
 
I think the PSU is 400watt - Antec. It's a computer at work built for one of the web programmers. The CPU is a intel 3.0ghz. MSI motherboard. Geforce 5700.
 
well..that's trippy...the only idea i have left is...what RAM manufacturer? which mobo? and is the RAM the same age as the rest of the rig?
 
The ddr 2100 266, ram is older, the other 1 is 256 courser value 3200 400 bought at the same time the other components where bought. Then a 512 courser value 3200 bought later because the boss forgot to order it. MSI PT880 NEO-FSR Socket 478 VIA PT880 ATX Intel Motherboard.. Also the CPU is the only other component i have not changed out. Because I don’t' have a extra cpu to check it. and i really don't think that the video card would cause RAM to fail

I guess I should also stat that the other motherboard was RMAed because of almost this same issue. .. I couldn't even get windows to install with the other motherboard. Windows xp install.. Format the drive... then got blue screens all throughout the rest. After the getting the new mother board windows installed fine. But still getting all the blue screens. so ran RAM test and Found out it that it would fail in the test 7 of the memtest86 on all 3 sticks. BTW I’m not running all the sticks at the same time. Each by them self’s. Support to be only running the 2 3200's but with the blue screens I tried them by themselves and tested each by them self’s

you understand that the DDR400 drops itself down to the slowest speed ram in the system. Being 266 your taking a performance hit. Highly suggest you yank and junk the older ram and leave the DDR400 in dual mode (slot 1 and slot 3); most likey whats causing the failure in memtest too.
 
just try swapping the PSU with another machine to be SURE thats not what it is. flakey problems like that are often PSU or something not connected securely (cable, card etc)

I would like to state: NO KIDDING!!! IF, you read it all. I said i was running them single. One at a time. The 266 isn't even for the system. I was just saying that ALL the ram failed the MemTest86, Test number 7. The 266 is was just a test stick. You know if you test the entire ram at the same time that does not tell you which one is bad.

With that said. I sat down with the system today and started doing updates just to rule those out. I stated updated the chipset. video card, sound, etc. Till I stated getting BOSD's. I saw 3 BOSD's saying Processes or threads critical to the system, yada yada, yada. I was only able to see that first part. So now I am thinking it is the CPU. But also got other BOSD's with different stuff also. I'll check the PSU but it won’t be till tomorrow.
 
why will you not even try the PSU first. it is 100 times more likely to be at fault than the CPU
CPUS usually fail by not working at all or freezing up.
 
Because i don't have a 350 or a 400 watt psu laying around to test it here are work. because i used it in a PC the other week and i have one at home. and my boss is stupid "only get one if it's gone out" See it works
 
It was the processor... put in a power supply, even tryed a diffrent hard drive... all produced the same results. Able to get hold of a buddy that a CPU that would work Laying around so i could finally test if it was the CPU. All that work for what i orininally thought it was. Now to get ahold of Intel for a replacement
