intel core 2 e6600
my cpu idels in the 40s
i never checked my temps while gaming but i did now
i played hl2 lost coast and i hit 55C
i have the fan set to go to 100% when my cpu hits 60C in bios.
Is this ok what should i do?

Those are safe temps. But if you want the best temps then my suggestion would be start using SpeedFan software to control your fan speeds. It is a lot more adjustable than the BIOS settings and give you better control over temperatures. You might find your temps drop 5C using SpeedFan once you get to know it, because does not wait until the CPU is too hot and suddenly turn the fan on full blast. It is more gradual.

You should not at all be worried about 55C or even briefly 60C. But try disabling your fan settings in the BIOS so it always runs at 100% speed, and let us know how cold your CPU gets. If you want to stick with letting the motherboard control your fans, you might want to set it for 55C not 60C to crank up to full speed.

speedfan is confusin uless som1 can show me
im worried becuz that was only a few mins of hl2 lost coast
do u think it will go higher during oblivion, css, ect or will it only hit around 55C

this kind of temp is fine on intel stock hsf, and anything below 75c is fine just so you know.

I use e6600 too but on CoolerMaster Mars, it idles at 33c full-loads at 43c so you might consider getting a better hsf.

OK no problem you don't need speedfan. You could try this. Change your setting on the motherboard to turn the fan on 100% when the temp hits 55C.

Now play oblivion or hl2, and just listen to the fan if it gets real loud then it means you hit 55C ;)

I think you are fine you got a pretty good temperature. Oblivion and counterstrike:source or hl2 don't get your computer CPU too hot, the video card yes.

sometimes you motherboard comes with a fan controlling software that runs in Windows that is simpler than speed fan speedfan is really expert software even the guy who wrote speedfan admits it. If you get nervous about temps just run that software and turn up the CPU fan before you start gaming. then turn it down when your done/

my mobo came with ntune but i dont want to use it, had a bad experience.
ill record my temps while playin games and if they get high ill change the fan speeds.

Staying under 65 is fine.

Hows your case airflow? That still seems a bit high...

Are your "stock HSF pins" pushed in far enough?

Those temps are ok if you are overclocked. But if you are at stock something is wrong.

im not oced
i got the hsf in, one of the pins was difficult to get in, but there as tight as theyll get

Jeez Louise, it kind of looks like a rat's nest of wiring there :D

Seriously I would get a handful of cable ties and secure that wiring get everything out of the way. All the unused power supply connectors and I mean all of them, stuff them in an unused drive bay. You should see what mine looks lik.

You also have a fan inside the case I guess that is blowing air over your drives. I would not have any case fan completely INSIDE the case that is just pulling hot air inside the case and moving it around. You might actually be cooler without that one.

And believe it or not I would disconnect the fan on the top of the case. You want the airflow to go in a perfectly straight line from front to back of the case. Sometimes case a fan on top pulling the air "up" disturbs the airflow.

i put that fan there to help cool the gfx card

in bios i made is so if the cpu his 55C fan will go 100%

i played hl2 lost coast again and hit 55C

i maunly set the fan to 100% usin bios, didnt make much of a diff

do u guys think i should make it to go to 100% when it hits 55C or just keep in on 100%?

remove the side cover of your case and see if temp drops, if it does then is inner ventilation problem.

You seem to have a 8800GT? which generates considerable amount of heat plus your cpu so I don't think 1 air outtake fan is enough, also as I said, consider changing cpu hsf.

The intel stock cooler is very capable of cooling a stock e6600. Those temps are very high for having no overclock on his cpu. What is your vcore?

whats vcore?
are these temps life threatening?

Here's what my case looks like. We have different case designs so I am trying to just give you ideas here. I have a minimalist philosophy when it comes to cooling which means empty space and nothing blocking anything, not even a little. :D

Every wire and cable is either completely flat on the floor of the case, or is completely tucked against the back wall of the case or under the side panel, so sticks out even lower than the motherboard itself. There is only (1) cable that even partially crosses the airflow for a few inches and that is the PCI-E connector to the video card, and that is cinched down with cable ties as tight as I can get it. Since the PCI-E cable is on the middle of the video card no way to get around that so I minimize the obstruction of that 1 cable as much as physically possible. Even the SATA connectors are cinched up together with cable ties and tucked down and inside the far wall of the case between the drive bays and the side panel of the case. I have just enough cable slack on the hard drive end so it does not put a strain on the SATA connector on the hard drive. The hard drive itself is mounted in the highest positon so the intake fan is blowing into a chamber of empty air with nothing blocking it.

The wireless card is a low rise design that sticks up maybe one inch off the motherboard and is very flat not much thicker than a credit card.

Notice that I removed the PCI slot metal tab that is directly under the video card. I am not trying to add another fan inside the case, just opened a little window for the hot air from the GPU to escape. When I feel around the back of the case the hottest part of the case is the hot air from the video card coming out of that slot.

Note I have just (1) intake fan that is completely unobstructed from front to back and (1) 120mm case fan in the rear. All fan wiring runs around the edges of the case and is tacked down with cable ties. The 80mm intake fan which is the blue glow in the bottom right side of the photo is sealed with a foam rubber gasket. There is nothing else anywhere near the intake fan and it has an unobstructed path all the way to the back of the case.

are these temps life threatening?

Vcore is the cpu core voltage. Its a BIOS option. No these temps arent life threating or even CPU threating for that matter. But they are high for stock settings. My suggestion is try and find the Vcore setting in your BIOS or run speedfan and tell what it says. It may have defaulted to a high amount which is raising your temps.

cpu core 0 Enabled
cpu core 1 Enabled
cpu core 2 Disabled
cpu core 3 Disabled

cpu core 1.24V
cpu fsb 1.2V
memory 1.850V
nforce spp 1.35V
nforce mcp 1.500V
ht nforce spp <-> mcp 1.45V

also would that hsf wdn has even fit on my mobo? that looks like the only good hsf that i can buy but it doesnt look like it will fit because of my 680is chipset heat transfer pipe.

temps are playin oblivion
s32cj.jpg

the longer you play do the temps get hotter? or do you think the highest my temps will hit will be 55?

If you are worried about a large HSF.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835186134
That offers good performance, a decent price and easy installation. It uses the same setup as the stock fan and doesnt require a backplate. Also will fit on a 680i mobo.

Your high temps are either a bad connection with the cpu and the HS, or you got a hot running cpu. They are in specs, just very warm for stock settings.
When you are playing oblivion your temps arent the highest they could go, running orthos will show your max temps. So 55c may be the highest when playing a game.

can u explain
"When you are playing oblivion your temps arent the highest they could go, running orthos will show your max temps. So 55c may be the highest when playing a game."
i didnt rly understand

Heh, sorry it didnt make much sense to me after reading what I said.

I was trying to say, that running a application known as Orthos will make your temps higher then oblivion. No game will completely load your cpu, but orthos will. So 55c may be the highest your temps will reach in a game, but Orthos will make the temps go higher due to more load being applied. I was just stating your temps are able to go higher, which imo can be bad. It may hurt stability if you ever do something that puts a load on your cpu due to higher temps. Geting a new HSF will reduce your temps quite a bit.
Hope that makes sense.

so y would i dl orthos if it will raise my temps?

Its a program that helps determine stability when overclocking. You said if 55c was the highest temps you would see, and I am saying no because if you run orthos it would go higher. Maybe I misunderstood what you where trying to say.

Those temp are just fine , i have a E6300 and on stock cooler i was hiting 50-52c idle, and 63c load, i dont think so intel would give you this cooler and not make sure its fine for the cpu lifetime. At 75c the cpu auto down fsb or something like that. I was a bit paranoia too about my temp so i got a Artic Cooling pro 7 for 20 box and i idle at 40c now and full load about 50c using the compoung on the artic cooling too, i am getting Artic Silver 5 soon, i will apply some and see what are the difference, but i except like 2c drop or less. But dont botter about seeing 60c with speedfan, coretemp software. Just touch your cpu heatink and you will notice that its not even that hot.
