CPU temps in Shuttle's

What kind of temperatures are you guys hitting on your shuttles? My friends ST62k (Zen) is hitting 70c idle on a Celeron D 2.8ghz and I'm concerned why the temperatures are so high. The thing it was idling at 35-40 degrees when I had it, but then I gave it to my friend to use while they're away at University, and I went to check on it the other day and it was idling at 70c.
 
SN85G4V2, as I sit here browsing the forums. My room ambient temp ~25

PWM temp = 38
SYS temp = 36
CPU = 36

Running Speedfan which is throttling my fans (ICE, intake and blowhole) at 15% right now. Im running an AMD A64-3200, 74 GB Raptor, 2x512 Corsiar VS, 9800 Pro. No OC.

Max temps might get to 50 under gaming.

You should change the smartfan setting in the BIOS. Instead of the default "smartfan", change it to "mid/medium". It won't increase noise much, but it will improve cooling a lot.
 
I have an sn41g2 w/ a Athlon 2500+. I leave the case off & my temps drop almost 5 degrees. Idle temp for me is 38, full load hovers around 47-48. With the case on, it'll jump to 50, sometimes 52. I had a Thoroughbred core chip in there originally, and my temps were about 3-4 degrees higher on average. I think that 70 deg. is an awfully high temperature. I'll have to go look it up, but I thought that 95C was the point at which you caused damage to a silicon chip. I know that both AMD & Intel have step-downs when a certain temp. is reached where it basically skips clock cycles (turns off) to keep you from frying the chip. Are you sure you have enough thermal paste & good surface contact between the core & heatsink? Also, you might try cutting out the back grill where the ICE radiator is. Even with the redesign, it's still extremely obstructive to airflow.

yeah, it sounds a lot like huge dust build up. So unless he's decided to reseat the heatsink without thermal paste a good cleanup will probably do the trick (and regular cleanups from now on)
 
Yep, second the canned air. Make sure you get into the fins of the heatsink!
 
Never had my SN25P get above 52C even at full load....like doom 3 for 4 hours.
The older Shuttles seem to have this problem, but the newest one's like mine seem to have solved the issue. If your going to use a San Diego AMD processor the SN25P reports it as being very high, but it is a bug. Shuttle knows this and will address it in a BIOS update.
