CPU temp jumped 15c after new m/b

With my old m/b I would get a temp of about 30c idle and 40-45c load. After installing a new Asus P5KPL-CM along with an Asus 9600gt my idle temp has increased to 45c and load to 60c. Ive rechecked the cpu and its properly seated and i added thermal compound. Q-fan is disabled and the cpu fan is spinning at 3300 rpm and its still at 47c. I also installed a case fan too (with the air blowing out of the case). There are no wires or anything in the way of the cpu fan.

What could be the cause?

Upgrade the BIOS. That board has known issues with reporting temperatures. Still might not work right even then.
 
Have you tried using coretemp or realtemp as it reports the CPUs temp values rather then the motherboards temp sensor.

QFT. Chances are if you weren't using one of these two programs to monitor your temps, you were getting wrong readings anyway.
 
Ive already upgraded the BIOS and im using SpeedFan to tell me the temps. I have a pentium d so coretemp and realtemp dont work. Is there any other programs which tell the temps?

Same problem here, went from MSI Neo2 (P35) to Asus P5q Deluxe (p45) and my temps went up more than I care for. Finally got my q6600 back to stable at 3.6 but it took a lot of work and temps are still not as nice as before. Same cooler, fresh clean and thermal paste (arctic silver 5).

The other thing annoying me is my CPU temp is showing 60c load, while my Cores are showing ~75c load. Never had this problem before or at least not that I noticed. Q6600 cores are good for 100c but still not all that cool!

Using the Zalman 9700 120mm.

If you use a program like Real Temp or Core Temp that is calibrated to the proper Tjmax, your temp readings won't change regardless of which motherboard you use. Either you're using a program that doesn't correctly report temperatures, or your current heatsink mounting or thermal paste application wasn't done properly.
 
Negative on all counts.

I have checked Core Temp to verify but I mainly use Everest (HW monitor). They both report same temps.

Core temps DEFINITELY went up with this motherboard. From what I have read that can partially be because of the extra heat this motherboard's northbridge puts off.

I am taken my heatsink off and recleaned it and put fresh Silver 5 on 3 times since I installed the motherboard to make 100% sure it wasn't that.

What I WOULD like to know is why my Core Temps are so much higher than the CPU Temp. I know they are different sensors and the CPU sensor should be a little lower, but it's a pretty fair amount. Idle CPU is 35 while the cores are at ~48.
 
The core temperature readings are the ones that actually monitor the CPU. I suspect that you were looking at the wrong numbers. That's why you should exclusively use Real Temp or Core Temp to check temperatures, because anything else won't be accurate.
 
I had a CPU load temp drop of around 10C after running F@H for a few days.
My system had been running/gaming for months so the heatsink paste should have bedded in, clearly it hadnt.
 
AS5 needs time to cure, so if you're using it, it gets better with time.
 
Good point. I had forgotten about that factor and that could be the big difference I am seeing. Since the new Mobo.

Can the other people stop mentioning software, I have compared Core Temp and others to Everest a million times in doubt and it is always 100% the same, not a spec of difference, ever.
 
The truthful answer is that no monitoring software can give you the correct temps unless you have calibrated it for your actual processor.
Intel have only released temp specs with regard to finding max operating temps.
Nothing for idle/load temps.

We know the TjMax figure (max temp before throttling starts) but we dont know the error on this so even that could be +/-10C for all we know.
The distance to TjMax is what is measured (without known accuracy) and from that the supposed actual temp can be calculated.
The nearer you are to TjMax, the more likely the reading will be accurate (to the same accuracy as TjMax).
The further you are from this temp the more wildly inaccurate the reported temp will be.

So consider load temps with a properly configured tool like Realtemp with TjMax configured for your processor.
The temps wont definitively be accurate but its as close as you will get.
Dont bother comparing idle temps between CPU's, use idle temps to see if your own temp rises too much as a guide only.
Beware of comparing load temps too there may be a large discrepancy between different CPUs.

Core temperatures are read from thermistors embedded inside each core. The CPU temperature is often pulled from a thermal sensor mounted on the motherboard. Obviously, the temperatures reported from the thermistors inside the cores themselves will be significantly more accurate than those reported from a sensor that isn't even in physical contact with the CPU.
