CPU Temp 7C Lower than Case?

specs below, just flashed the BIOS to 1.3 official MSI release (although beta 1.4s are out). So on idle, I'm getting 42C CPU and 49-50C Case. Which seems odd to me? Is this normal?

btw I'm OCd to 220FSB with stock multiplier 11x on on a 1.55V. no change to dram.
 
This is almost 100% not possible, unless you have serious airflow concerns. In general, your case temp is your ambient, and should be closer to room temp. Unless you live in South Texas w/o AC, that's not right. Is your airflow good? Exhaust and intake fans? If so, it's just a bad sensor. What did they show before the bios update? Since you have air cooling, your CPU will never get cooler than ambient, so that's not right.
 
I also just flashed the 1.3 official for my MSI K8N. I didn't bother with the MSI utility, but I use speedfan, so I gave that a download and install. First thing I noticed was that the sensor it assumed was my CPU was actually my NB. Try using something like prime95, folding@ or seti@home to load the CPU and watch the temps to see which one shoots up by a noticable margin.\

EDIT:
Reading your post more closely, I'll bet you 5 bucks that the ~50c temp you're seeing isn't the ambient (that'd be DAMMED HOT) but rather your northbridge temp.

That sounds more reasonable, but 50*C for a northbride is DAMNED HOT :D

50*C for an overclocked CPU isn't unreasonable...
 
Yea i checked my BIOS, its reporting a NB temp of 50C or so which according to some peeps on the MSI forums isn't uncommon to be above the CPU temp as its just a passive cooling HS on the chipset. I guess I'm going to have to do something about it (maybe a vantech)
 
My processor stays 6-7*C cooler than my ambiant, but this is inside a Shuttle with a 6800GT.

No it doesn't. Re-read your post, then realize how stupid it sounds.

The CPU gets hot, creating heat. That heat gets pushed out to the heatsink, which your ambient air is running over. Since your ambient air is the only thing cooling the heatsink, that is as far as the heatsink can hope to go. You cannot have a CPU with air cooling below ambient.

Even with water cooling, you can't get below ambient (unless with a bong). You see, the radiator is just another style of heatsink, so the water can only get as cold as the air going through the rad.
