I've tried to fix this problem multiple times; I have no idea....anyway, I hear audio feedback through both speakers and headphones...it's not my soundcard because I bought a new one. I have noticed it only happens when my sys info shows CPU spiking...obviously my CPU is going to spike; but how can I fix it registering out through my speakers...it is extremely irritating.

Please point me in the right direction...

EDIT - Would formatting help this? It happens in mostly all games but not in others, such as EQ2....meaning it might be software problem; perhaps XP/ Directx was installed wrong or bugged...

Umm does it still happen when you play games or songs?

Yes; it's more noticable in songs because I play alot of acoustic. It's also very noticable in CS:S. What is even stranger that in EQ2, one of the most hungry games out there today, runs perfectly and I can hear no feedback whatsoever when playing. Which rules out a directx problem I think.

First software: What software are you using to play the music? Sounds like you're running out of MHz to process the sound. Try using Winamp (seems to be one of the horsepower friendly player I've come across) as opposed to WMP.
Does it happen when all you're doing is playing music, or are you trying to do something at the same time (DivX encoding maybe)? If so, lower the thread priority for your encoder(in Task Manager) or raise the Winamp thread priority (in Winamp Preferences or Task Manager).

Hardware (less likely):
Can you move the amp further away from the PC? Even if it is integrated into one of the speakers. Try plugging the cables into front ports on your PC (they may be picking up feedback from some other cables that go in the back).
What spec PC are you running?

AMD 3000+ , Abit KV8 Pro, 1 Gig Kingston Value, x800XT PE, SB Live 5.1.

I doubt it is hardware, because I've had this computer for a year and this hasn't happened before.

Even if I use winamp and have no problems there; how do I fix the games that have a problem with it; it's very irritating in CS:S...

SBs have occasional issues with A64s. Try getting the latest Hyperion drivers from VIA. Try updating your bios (MSI have an auto-updating tool - I'd be surprised if Abit didn't). Other than that, try asking on the AMD Processor's forum. There are A LOT of A64 gurus there who seem to know everything about A64s. Someone's bound to have had this config and will have an answer for you.

Formatting seems to have helped this problem; it's not occuring any times in the instances it was previously...I haven't installed SP2 yet though. I'm trying to use it and update the machine slowly so if it starts up again I will know what the problem is.
