CPU runs at 26C. Should I overclock?

26C is 79F; Your CPU is not really at 26C unless your room is really, really cold.

I'd prefer the reading at Celsius please, I'm not American...

Why is that so hard to believe. Sure your room does have to be cold, but 26C isn't that unreasonable. My room temperature is 21C and I have no problem keeping my idle temp (at 2.6GHz) below 30C.

There're so many variables that come into play with CPU cooling that you really cant count someone out on what they're saying before you know ALL the facts.

lol :p

I agree.

He's got a processor that puts out 25 Watts (According to http://www.benchtest.com/calc.html). Assuming his heatsink does 0.20C / Watt, his room temperature would have to be 21C. It's feasible, but I'd have to doubt that he has a heatsink capable of that heat dissipation, especially within the confines of a hot case.

It's more likely that his sensors have an offset that causes them to return erroneous values. My DP533 claimed my processors ran at 76C when I first ran MBM5. That scared me for a second.

Thats cool. Hey everyone he's from Canada like me its ok. Matt remember to replace the ice block on your igloo window before running that test.

Seriously don't worry about the low temps. One thing not sure if its mentioned (didn't read the entire post) you might be getting a false reading. Some sensors aren't that great.

Cheers,

Nobodies sensors are RIGHT on.....some are just more accurate then others. I wasn't using this as a personal attach against you, it's just that this exact same thing happened to me. I was stating I was getting certain (very low) temps with my 2.6C with my Zalman7000 and nobody would believe me. After being "presented" with the mathematical C/Watt calculations guess what.....it actually worked out. In my case it was just because my room temps WERE abnormally low at the time, so please don't pick on the guy. I'm just trying to stick up for him here 'cus I know what it's like to be on the blunt end of a lot of these statements, and then have the conversation go either way.

I agree, I also get very low temps and my mobo is off on its sensor as well. On idle my cpu is at 26C. Check sig for stats.
although my max3 tells me that my idle is 34C. Max load is 41C and max3 tells me 50C. To clairfy on the first sensor I am using an Aerogate II with the sensor next to the core and a sensor in the case that reports 24C idle and 26.5 max load.

I also live in canada and my basement is a constant 19C. The odd time it will get up to 21-23 but thats it. So I wouldnt doubt his temps one bit since im getting these temps with what I got.
