Hi, so i was working on my pc last night, adding a light in, and in the maze of power cords, i managed to connect the light and the power for my CPU fan (not the stock hsf), so really neither of them were getting power, and i saw the light wasn't on, but didn't notice the cpu fan wasn't gonig, so for like 45 seconds--a minute, there was no fan to my cpu, so i shut it off right there. so i restart after i get everything sorted out. after the initial load part, where it says the processor and the amount of RAM, it says, CPU has been modifed or changed, then i noticed above it said athlonxp 1500, instead of 2500, so i go into the bios and check everything out.
then i restart and it loads up fine. i get to the windows log on, i try to click my name, and then the pc restarted. i've done that like 10 times, i notice that the light in my mouse goes out a few seconds before the machine shuts off. one time i was quick enough to click my name and type my password, a box came up saying couldn't write pagefile or something, then it shut off.so then i try safemode, under safe mode it wouldn't load either, said something about a lss.exe (not exactly that but it had s and l in the name). i've unplugged everything from the power supply, and still the same result

so yeah, i have no idea what's wrong w/ my pc, anyone have any idea? if there was something wrong with the CPU or anything really i didn't think it'd get as far as the windows logon before quitting, but i really don't know. i'm worried that i may have damaged the cpu, but it doesnt' seem like it could have gotten that damaged by being on for a minute, i mean the heat sink was still there to help. any ideas?
thanks for any help

Try to boot into Knoppix. It is a form of Linux completely bootable off of cd and is available for download at www.linuxiso.org
Then you will at least know whether it is your harddrive that is damaged, which is what it sounds like. Also, what FSB is the processor running at?
