CPU overheating or bad heat sensor?

I've been running my system WCed for about a month now. Loop is pump -> rad -> CPU -> GPU -> pump. My gpu temps are 38c idle and around 42c load.

The problem I'm having is my cpu temps are insanely high. My mobo's monitoring software says it hovers around 47c (idle) to 55c (load). So I removed the block and reapplied AS5 a couple weeks back and the temps are still the same.

I installed lavalys' monitoring software, which says my temps jump from 69c to 108c idling! Is my mobo's sensor faulty or am I not seating the block correctly?


P.S. I'm using the corsair COOL kit (with a t-line instead of the res) with an mcw-55 gpu block.

Specs are:

AMD64 3200+ Venice (E6)
Soltek SL-K890PRO-939
eVga 7600GT
(Nothing OCed yet)

Oh, back when I had air cool, I was using the Zalman 7700-ALCU HSF which gave me the same temps when using the mobo's monitoring software.

Thats a big clue. I'm not familiar with the Soltek motherboard you've got, but the usual plan is to update the bios and check the temps on the monitoring screen there. If you see dramatically different results than in windows you know its a software problem. If its the same I'd start looking into a defective motherboard or sensor. If you get results that are dramatically cooler than in windows you should check that you have no programs running in the background that are using the cpu heavily. Then I'd update all the motherboard drivers and monitoring software. If that didn't do it I'd reinstall windows or swap harddrives and install a fresh copy.

Its all about isolating the problem.
 
Your MB sensor is obviously screwed as your CPU will go Poof! at 108 C. :eek:
 
Yea, the probes are probubly wrong. Mine here say that an Aircooled, overclocked Opteron on 1.55v is at 15 degrees, when room temperature is 22.

My Fluke, on the other hand, says it's running a "cool" 41/52.
 
My gut feeling was that the sensor is screwy, cause I've been playing Oblivion for hours on end since it came out and I haven't experienced any hardware related crashes. I'm just a paranoid person and needed a second opinion about the subject. Will check for new BIOS when I have time.
