I have a Pentium D 820 2.8ghz processor and 2gb of kingston 667mhz memory. I would like to know what would be a better upgrade: an e6550 cpu or 2gb 800mhz crucial ballistics memory? I'll mostly be gaming! Thank you!!!

cost of E6550 upgrade |= cost of 2 gigs of ballistix. Mobo might also not support Conroe.

If you get the Ballistix be prepared for it to operate at 667 as opposed to 800mhz because that is where your other memory is rated to. You might be able to get the Kingston up to 800mhz but you have to keep in mind that you might also not be able to use the same latencies which would force you to use looser ones. 2GB of ram is more than enough for gaming these days.. I had 2GB until recently and never noticed that much of a performance increase, if any.. it just seemed to make the overall experience a tad smoother but nothing drastic.

I'd say go with the processor upgrade as that is the heart and soul of your system. If its fast, the rest will be fast as it can compute at a much faster rate than the PD you currently have.

Thank you! If I got the 2 gb of crucial, I would be selling the knigston, so I would be running at 800mhz.
