Your computer just sits there and looks at you funny... :D lol j/k

Why? What kind of symptoms do you have? Any? Or are you just wondering?

I've never really noticed a pattern, CPUs are so complex and dependent on all the circuitry, that they may never show symptoms, but just stop working when something fries.
However, that's not to say that that will always happen. Like I said above, they're very complex, so something little might not, at least initially, have an obvious effect.
Probably the most obvious symptom is that the computer won't start; but this could be anything... so let me rephrase... if the computer won't start with one CPU but does with an other of the exact same model without any other changes being made.
Another possible symptom is the system getting started, but crashing or hanging up randomly...

Those are the only symptoms I feel confident enough to give you because I have had personal experience with each, and can guarentee that it was really the CPU in both cases...
There could be more symptoms out there, but I haven't had any personal experience with those.

Best O Luck!

P.S. The best way to test for a bad CPU is to do what I said above (if you can, not everyone has an extra processor just lying around)... just swap it out and see if the symptoms continue... if so, then the CPU is probably not the problem

My system started to become unstable at previously stable oc's. Freezing alot in bf2 and sometimes just random rebooting. No voltage or underclock could fix it. Swapped in an old cpu and voila. Everything was fine again.
