cpu in games

I saw this chart and noticed that cpu does not make a diff in games when played at 1600x1200 or more. Even the FX 57 at 2ghz gets the same fps as an overclocked conroe.

So is it even worth it to go conroe? It seems that at gpu bound resolutions, cpu does not do much

The conroe is so much better in just about everything else though...but if you only game and you already have a good dual core AMD processor and very good video card, then the upgrade may not be worth it.

Runnig Postal 2 (about 4 years old game), you will be happy of getting a Conroe... It is so CPU limited(/inefficient) that you need to overclock it to enjoy the fragfest with a decent framerate after maxing all the performance options...

(using E6600 @ 3.17 GHz, 7900GT @ 520 MHz, and the vidcard ask for more...)

Yes. you're right.

If all you do is game, there's very little benefit from going to Conroe.

The added stability and CPU speed were worth it enough for me.
