CPU ID's on multiple computers

Hi,

Question, as I add more computers online, running F@H, should each machine's CPU ID be different. In other words, for my first machine, the ID for the two processors were, 1 and 2, accordingly, in the Client Software? With my second machine, should the two CPU's on it have ID's of 3 and 4, and so on, for the added on computers, running the F@H Client?

Start with Machine ID #1 on each computer.

Machine ID #s identify each client on one computer, not across multiple computers.
 
If you have 2 clients on 2 different PCs, then it doesn't matter what machine ID you use (1 is defualt)

If you have 2 clients installed on the SAME PC, then you must give them different Machine IDs


In your case, each PC should have clients with machine IDs 1 and 2:

Box 1 ---/fold1 = machineID 1
---/fold2 = machineID 2

Box 2 ---/fold1 = machineID 1
---/fold2 = machineID 2

It all depends on how you set your boxen up.

Stanford records what work units it has sent you via the User ID plus Machine ID.
Each client must have an unique conbination of the two otherwise Stanford looses count of what it has sent where and you can end up folding a work unit for zero points.
This is important if you clone a drive with folding on.
Remove the User ID from the registry before you clone the drive and let each new copy download a new ID.
This is the normal way of setting Folding up.
Box 1 (User ID xx xx xx xx) ---/fold1 = machineID 1
---/fold2 = machineID 2
Box 2 (User ID yy yy yy yy) ---/fold1 = machineID 1
---/fold2 = machineID 2
ect, etc.

If you have a mix of boxen and want to move work units around soo you maximize your points per day then set up your boxen with the same User ID and each client gets a different Machine ID.
Use numbers 1-8 for the CPU client.
That way you can swop the FAH folders between your computers with no risk of Stanford loosing track of what it has sent you.
This is how all my computers are set up at the moment.
Box 1 (User ID xx xx xx xx) ---/fold1 = machineID 1
---/fold2 = machineID 2
Box 2 (User ID xx xx xx xx) ---/fold3 = machineID 3
---/fold4 = machineID 4
ect, etc.

Ps. The User ID is stored in the registry and is different from your User Name that you enter in the config section.
