CPU HSF blowing on video card

Due to the awkward angle of my Lian Li case, I have a limited choice for a heatsink fan.

For my HSF, I chose a Thermaltake V1.

However, the measurements were off (the W and L were switched around) and now instead of the HS fan blowing away from the intake part of my case (and towards the front of the case, near the optical area) it is now blowing up and towards my backside of my 8800GT.

TL;dr: Will this heated air towards the back of my 8800GT hurt it?

I am planning to install my Accelero S1 on my 8800GT once everything else is set up

here it is, what space i have to work with.

case fan next to it is intake, i guess i can mod it to be out, ill just need somehow to mod then the front unused optical bays somehow to accomodate a fan, as ive seen in some others builds with mesh in front... how does one go upon that?

or does anyone think they have a sure-fit hsf combo that might fit?

Anyone?

Ah man, once I thought I was in the clear, a problem pops up on this build. I mean, it works but not exactly the way I was hoping to ideally get it, meh :|

For my Lian Li V2100B...I went with a Kama Bay by Scythe. Helps A LOT. But also takes up 3 slots since it's a 120mm fan.

That's a less than ideal situation, because you don't really want pre-warmed air blown on the video card. However, if the temps on the video card are okay it probably isn't a really big deal. Looks like intake is probably the best configuration for that case fan also, at least you'll be getting good cool air to the CPU HSF in that configuration.

CPU HSF blowing hot air over the northbridge into the 8800GT sounds like a problem to me. Can you add a top exhaust and reverse the CPU HSF? That would solve the problem.

I think I found a way to properly cool everything.

I will have the exhaust go out from the top (over the PCI area, the adjustable sliding fan provided with the case).

I will replace and flip around the case fan by the CPU to become exhaust.
Then I will also flip around the HSF so it will spit out the hot air towards the divider and hope that the exhaust fan will get all that air. If not, I am also just spending another 20 bucks on an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, since it looks likes, specs wise on it's size that it might fight so the fan will actually be any direction I want it.

I will also be taking Lames. suggestion and getting a Karma Bay and replacing the stock fan in that with a larger CFM Scythe 120mm.

With all these adjustments plus the eventual HSF combo on my 8800GT, this will be one cool case :D (and a lighter wallet >_<).

Sounds like a man with a plan. Some other ideas if you’re into case moding: Can you Dremel the divider to allow the CPU HSF to turn 90 degrees and blow into the exhaust fan? I can’t tell from the pic is the divider removable? That would sure make it easier to mod.

I had two empty 5 ¼ bays in the front of my case and mounted an 80mm fan in the drive bay open space. I know it’s a poor mans mod but it delivers room air over the memory and into the CPU HSF and then right out the back. I don’t remember what the temp change was but I was really pleased with at the time. One recommendation though is to make sure exhaust is greater than the air flow into the case.

Good Luck

thats why i love the antec 900, the 2 drive bays at the front bring plenty of cool air in over the HD's then through to the mobo and graphics card.

Sup dude, got a solution for you. I have the same chip and cooler and the exhaust on the cooler isnt that much warm. But what you could do is get the slot exhaust fan for 4 bucks at the egg. Mount it in front of the GT, so it sucks all the exhaust air from the V1. I have this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999154 it pumps out a lot of air and its quite. It dropped my GTX temp by 4 at idle and 3 at load. (46 idle and 62 load) Try it. It should work. let us know how it goes.

The air temp of the CPU and chipset is never going to be as high as the graphics card itself. I think you are fine. In fact it is actually a postive. If you have like 60C air blowing into the card something is REALLY toasty in your case...

On the other hand a PCI slot cooler will help alot.
