CPU getting too much stock voltage???

I am using an Intel 630 on a Asus P5WD2 Premium motherboard and when I installed it last night I noticed that it is getting 1.44V into the core! That is way too much for stock right?!?

I did buy this cpu used and I noticed a brown spot on it last night before I put it in the machine.

Could it have been overclocked too much and now requires more voltage at stock???
It idles around 42c with a Thermaltake Blue Orb II and artic Silver 5 installed.
Thats too high right?

I hope I can hit 4ghz with this baby still. I guess I just wont touch the voltage at all when overclocking.
 
Also for when I am overclocking there are 3 features that I am unsure on to leave enables or disabled. They are

Enchanced C1 Control default = Auto

and

CPU Internal Thermal Control default = Auto

And also there is Speedstep Technology Since I am overclocking do I need to turn these off?

Im sorry but 1 more question.

I locked the PCI freq to 33mhz but what about the PCI express freq?
 
Its fine. ASUS boards overvolt a little. Stock vcore is 1.375-1.425 so your ok. C1E and CPU thermal control (TM1 & TM2) are just things to keep you from frying your chip. C1E halt state will default your CPU to its x14 multiplier when the CPU is not in use and reduce CPU temps, and rever to the selected multiplier when it needs it. Tm1 and Tm2 thermal controls are if your CPU exceeds its thermal threshold, the CPU will downclock itself back to a safe speed until temperatures are where it wants. PCi-E freq should be at 100.
 
ok, I am at stock settings now running Prime 95 and SuperPie and I'm getting 52C with full load after about 20 mins.

I see people on here running 2 prime 95 programs at once. How do they do that?
When I try it closes the other one.

Going to try to hit 4ghz tonight.:D

Copy the file Prime95.exe to another folder and run it!
 
yea, I'm at around there on my P5LD2 with my 630. I've got it running around 1.445V-1.448V, no problems here =)

Actually you can just add a switch to the shortcut.. it's somthing like -1 for the first one.. -2 for the 2nd one.. etc etc.. read the readme - it tells you. Don't have prime95 at work, so can't check.
 
Yeah please let us how your overclocking goes. I plan on taking my 630 up to at least 3.8ghz, but im going to push for 4.0 ghz. Just got to get my Zalman first to cool it.

Question on Intel overclocking, is it just upping the FSB then upping the voltage? I read the overclocking guide for AMD's and the author said AMD is more tricky.

for a 630, yes. If it's a higher end processor that has unlocked multipliers, then you also can move the multipliers around, but for the 630, the multis are locked so you only move the FSB and voltages.

How about memory. That is the part where I know im going to get confused at. Am I going have to mess with that?
 
I have the same you have execpt mine is 2GB kit.

Im running mine at 3.6ghz 250x15 1.435V in bios but I get 1.51V Idle in Windows.

2.2V 4-4-4-8 at 320Mhz. Im going to leave prime on all night and see if its stable like this then I will tyr to turn down the cpu voltage 1 notch and run prime again.
I can't seem to move up any though.
