I'm putting together a file server for home use and will be running Windows Server 2003 (no I will not use Linux) I have an Asus A8NSLI Delux mother board. What should I get for a processor? Am I wasting my money on a dual core? I can get a retail 3800+ for $150 or should I get a single core for half the price?

The cheapest thing you can find. I'm sure any processor that fits in that board is more than fast enough.

Im using a P3 800 and have a friend that uses a P3 550 so just about anything you can put in that board should work.

funny that my server (gaming) has the X2 3800+ and the A8N-SLI Deluxe runs great but its a game server, u may not need dual core.
