hey, couple of questions..

i have two rigs folding and xp2600+ and my amd 64 3400+...

what can i say, my xp2600+ is folding quicker than my amd 64... why??

i compared it during night, so no other workload for both croes...

also, been hearing about instances of the cores??
waht are we talking about here?

I'm a bit of a noob myself but the way I understand it different cores on the units you recieve run better on certain processors. I don't think that you can choose what cores you want to recieve, however. It's pretty much luck of the draw.

The core is the name of the code used to fold the protiens.
Tinkers (FahCore_65.exe), Gromacs (FahCore_78.exe), Amber (FahCore_82.exe) are the three types of work units that you can run.

As for speed my Opteron's run around 15% faster than my MP's on a Points per Hour per Ghz basis if nothing is running in the background.

Luck.......... :D

It probably wasn't quicker. What you will most likely find is that they were working on different protiens. Some protiens are beefier than others. <---I made a funny. ;)

First off there are different workunits out there,
and the different work units are different sizes.
They are different sizes in that they are larger,
longer, or just more comples, and therefore
take a greater ammount time to crunch through.

Because of this Stanford puts different point
values on the different work units it issues.
So on a given system for example one unit
may be worth 100 points and take 24 hours
to complete, and another work unit may
be worth 50 points and take approximatly 12
hours.

So just because one seems to be folding faster
its probably just got a smaller work unit.

Look around the forum for Electron Microscope
it is a nifty program that will keep track of
your folding boxes and tell you a bunch of cool
information including hte size of the work unit
as well as how fast or how many points per hour
your box is producing.

Having been at this a while I have noticed that two identical machines running the exact same protein can and often will fold at different speeds. I’ve even put identical proteins on my duallys and found the same thing.

Can’t explain them, I just fold them

I have notice that over all a 64 bit machine at the same speed will out-fold a 32 bit. Not my much, but it does make a difference.

Luck
