CPU fan speed.

So I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right area but here it goes anyways. What i would like to do is have fanspeed drop my cpu fan speed by about 30% for sound reasons then when I open a game such as Cs:s have it boost the fan speed back up to 100% so my cpu doesn't overheat. Thanks in advance.
 
how do you have the fan connected to your motherboard? 3 or 4 pin connector?

if your motherboard supports 4-pin, you can get yourself a pwm fan and use this connector. it will automatically speed up (and slow down) the fan according to the load/heat of the cpu.
 
Its connected with 4 pin but it only drops down to about 2k rpm whereas I would like it to go down to about 1.2k rpm to make it quieter. Also even with the lower rpm it still idles at 34 c.
 
What fan/heatsink are you using?

If you have a heatsink that can accept an aftermarket fan, you might want to consider switching it out, but you'll need a PWM fan (4 pin header) in order for your motherboard to control the speed.
 
Right now i have the stock phenom II 955 heat sink.
If you could suggest a better heat sink that would be quieter that would be great.
