CPU Fan Speed Troubles

Hey guys, my dads old computer which he still uses occasionally has gotten to be real bothersome, mainly because the jet engine sound it produces when it's on. The CPU fan is a ThermalTake Copper Orb and the thing cools well, but it's super loud. I checked and there are no ways to control the speed through BIOS (older chipset...yadda yadda). Anyways I was wondering if there's a 3rd party app or something where I can adjust the CPU fan speed through Windows.

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)
 
Since you're saying it's an old computer, just spend a few bucks to buy a new quieter cpu fan.

I'm a lazy guy and replacing a fan along with the thermal paste isn't my style. I think if there isn't any software or anything, I'm just gonna get a fan controller like danimal said. I'm still open for suggestions though.
 
holy crap, i had one of those HS's. SO ANNOYING. it has a very similar pitch to a tornado. it's horrible. however, it does cool very nicely. anyway, any fan controller should work fine. even a cheap poteniometer would work if you don't mind soldering. just find the red wire and splice into it.
