I'm not sure how long my computer has been doing this but today I installed a new graphics card and I had the side of my case off to make sure nothing "blew up". lol Well I noticed that sometimes my CPU fan will completely stop spinning then start back up again. I was watching temps in Everest and my cpu hit 21 degrees, then it stopped, hit 30 degrees and started back up. Is this normal? Or is my fan not getting enough power now that my new card is in? What is going on?

I'm using a Thermalright XP-120 I believe. Please respond, this is scaring the shit outta me.

This only happens when the comp is sitting idle. If I play a game or anything it will keep spinning.

well those temps arent dangerous so its not a problem. if you want to stop it, disable either smartfan settings in bios, or whatever fan control your using and have the fan constatnly on.

yer will be sumthing in your bios that tells the fan what temp to turn on and off

I suspect that the fan cannot run at the slowest speed it is set to run at.
If you go below the minimum speed of the fan it will simply stop.

Try setting the minimum speed of the fan a bit higher in the CMOS and see what happens.

basiacllt its 100% safe when your cpu heats up the fan starts up to kool it back down then stops once it gets at a cool enough level and the same process keeps repeating
