CPU Fan Driving Me Crazy

I have a strange problem.

I recently purchased a new computer with the following components
- Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H Motherboard.
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
- ASUS V60 CPU Cooler/Fan

When I do any action that increases the CPU (eg open a program, scroll through a Word Document, or split a page in a Word Document in half). The RPM on my CPU Fan drops by approximately 20 RPM, say from 1660 to 1640, and after the CPU returns to zero it returns to its original level.

While this doesn't sound like much, it is enough to change the sound of the fan as it decelerates and accelerates.

The fan is connected by 4 wires, so I have been told that the CPU shouldn't be draining power from the fan.

Has anyone heard of this before? Is this likely to be a defective motherboard?
 
Go in your BIOS and find the option for ASUS "Cool 'n Quiet". Disable it. Your fan will run @ 100% all the time afterward.
 
@ Casho: Go to BIOS->PC Health Status:
CPU Smart FAN Control: Enabled
CPU Smart FAN Mode: PWM

Probably your CPU fan is controlled via Voltage mode when you have the Smart FAN Mode on Auto... :confused:
In the F4 bios there is a fix for EasyTune5 compatibility issues, what's your BIOS version ?

@ Sheldron: LOL you have to read more carefully: it's a Gigabyte mobo and it's not recommended to run your CPU fan at 100% when it's not needed ! :p

You are a genius. Changing the Bios setting to Voltage fixed the problem immediately. You have no idea how long I have been trying to sort this issue out for. I was about to order a new CPU fan, which I will now be able to cancel.

I can't thank you enough. I have a big smile on my face.
 
I have the same mobo, and I can't figure out any way to take manual control of the CPU and case fan speeds. They're way too loud, especially since this is a PC that won't be doing any heavy lifting. I tried using Speedfan but the RPM's just sit there happily spinning away full blast, ignoring whatever the program tells them. I made the BIOS setting the same as suggested above, and the mobo does vary the CPU fan speed (although not the case fan) but I'd like to override its recommendation. Any suggestions?
 
To vary the speed of the CPU fan download EasyFan6. I also couldn't get SpeedFan to work, but I am able to adjust the speed using EasyFan6.

I haven't found a way to change the speeds of the case fan.
