CPU cooler--how tight is right?

I have the Silverstone NT06 CPU cooler in the SG01 case. The cooler is anchored down by 4 spring loaded thumb screws. The instructions do not say how tight to make them. If anything, I think I overtightened them. For reference, my E6600 is running at 47C which seems higher than most people are getting.

The springs should keep you from overcompressing. If you didn't crack the core, you are just fine. 47 seems about normal.

i made my own spring loaded thumb screws for my ninja and I stop tightening when I see the mobo start to flex a bit, which is about the same as when I can't tighten the thumb screws anymore without significant force.

I always attach my heatsink prior to motherboard installation. I will pick up the board by the heatsink and that way you can get a good feel for it's security. I don't shake it or anything, lol, i just pick it up to double check that it's not sliding or coming lose.

I screw mine in until it become difficult, then stop. I don't try to overtighten for fear of cracking a board or stripping the screw. But yeah, the springs will help. :)
